Setting up Rest API in APCC/ASCOM V2
Hi folks Here's a short 1 min video on how to set up APCC and ASCOM V2 for connecting via Rest API It's a preview but there's been enough interest in this topic that it might answer your questions Feedback on your success (or issues) is welcome if you do decide to do this Brian Brian Valente astro portfolio https://www.brianvalentephotography.com/astrophotography/ portfolio brianvalentephotography.com |

Thanks for the video. When do you want to do this, and why? Does it only work over a LAN cable?

Hi Andrew >>>When do you want to do this, and why? are you asking why you would switch to the REST API? First, I'd say if things are working for you, you certainly don't have to switch. Switch to the Rest API if you are having issues with the virtual ports. Some users report more reliable connection with REST API. >>Does it only work over a LAN cable? No, but I can see why you ask that. The process here may be a little misleading. REST API is a local connection between ASCOM and APCC using a port on your local machine. So the fact that you have to choose IP first may be technically accurate, but you do not need a lan cable to connect your mount. The APCC connection to your mount can be any of the supported ones: TCP/IP, USB, etc. On Wed, Nov 16, 2022 at 3:19 PM Andrew Burwell via groups.io <andrew_burwell=me.com@groups.io> wrote: Thanks for the video. Thanks for putting this together Brian.
From my own personal experience, the REST API seems to work better than virtual COM ports. I was experiencing some pretty bad lags with my remote desktop connection as well as intermittent issues with various parts of my setup which interfaced with ASCOM. I've used the REST API for the past two nights and everything seems more stable and faster, so for my part this seems to be a better solution. YMMV. ~ JVM |
