New versions of APCC Standard, Pro, and AP V2 ASCOM Driver to use as an Eltima alternative

Ray Gralak

Hi All,

Here are links to newly released versions of APCC Standard, Pro, and AP V2 ASCOM driver.

AP V2 ASCOM driver 5.50.03 (Release)

This includes a fix for the issue reported by Linwood earlier today (the APCC Pointing model not loading when using the driver uses the REST API to APCC).

https://www.gralak.com/apdriver/AstroPhysics_V2_Setup_5.50.03.exe

APCC Standard v1.9.4.2 (Release)

https://www.apastrosoftware.com/apcc_download/APCC_Standard_Setup_1.9.4.2.exe

APCC Pro v1.9.4.3 (Release)

https://www.apastrosoftware.com/apcc_download/APCC_Pro_Setup_1.9.4.3.exe

To configure APCC to not use the Eltima Virtual Ports, set them all to “None” on APCC’s Virtual Ports tab:

Lastly, configure the driver to use APCC’s REST API, as shown in this screenshot:

(BTW, enabling the “IP Addr” checkbox will show the “APCC REST API” checkbox)

Ray, thanks for these updates.

Its been a while (a few months) since I updated APCC/AP driver so is there some release documentation (feature changes / bug fixes) somewhere for me to look at before updating ?

BTW, I cannot see the new released version advertised in APCC when I hit "Check  for updates".

Sébastien

ASCOM camera does not seem to work for APPM it takes the image fine, just never solves successfully. Switching to SkyX camera and leaving ASTAP settings untouched works just fine.

Yes, the slew to zenith solve was the one that failed over and over for ASCOM Camera, and worked perfectly on
the full run for SkyX.
I meant have you tried blinking between the FITS images of the same sky RA/Dec to see if they are any obvious differences? If
nothing looks significantly different, then it's probably something in the FITS header, in which case I would need to have you zip
both images and make them available to me.

To configure APCC to not use the Eltima Virtual Ports, set them all to "None" on APCC's Virtual Ports tab:

Lastly, configure the driver to use APCC's REST API, as shown in this screenshot:

(BTW, enabling the "IP Addr" checkbox will show the "APCC REST API" checkbox)

What is the minimum firmware for these updates?

Ray Gralak

For APCC, any firmware starting with "V". For the driver, any version.

What is the minimum firmware for these updates?

Got both installed and configured. I did some initial testing and all seems well but I am clouded out and it may be a few days before I can test further.

Ray, I've only been casually scanning this on-going discussion about virtual port issues.    Is this new software release required?    And are virtual ports no longer required for the functionality?     I typically use ethernet to connect to the mount.. and it's been entirely stable.    But I do believe it uses virtual ports to connect the ASCOM driver.      Does the new software eliminate the need for virtual ports?

Hi Terri,

The new release does not eliminate the Eltima virtual ports but provides an alternative if you cannot get the virtual ports working on your computer. So if you update to the newly released version, you may use the alternative REST API interface, which does not use virtual ports, or continue to use the virtual ports as you have been doing.

Thank you Ray for the explanation.

Hi Ray,

I installed the last version of APCC along with the driver. I have followed the above instructions, i.e. put all virtual ports to none AND then selected the APCC Rest API.

First question : usually, my mount is connected via USB cable. Do I need to tweak it and connect via IP ?

After applying the new settings, I launched APCC and then tried to connect to my automation software. The driver starts but does not connect. See below image:

Anything I am doing wrong ?

Thank you for your help
Regards,
A.

Hi again,

Please help me finding solution the my problem : after having upgraded both APCC and the driver, I am no longer able to connect to the AP driver through USB cable. I am experiencing something very very strange as shown in the below image. In short
  • In the driver setting, I am selecting Port COM7.
  • However, when the driver is being connected, it has the Port COM 20 ! Whatever I try this is one is always coming and therefore I cannot use the driver !
  • In APCC, as may seen, I do not have issue to connect by selection Port COM7.
How can I get rid of this problem ? I have uninstalled both APCC and the Driver the problem remains. This is getting so frustrating.....

It's like the system is keeping something in Memory the Port COM 20.

THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH.
Aygen

EDIT : After 1 hour of struggling, I managed to find the solution. I had to go to APCC advanced setting and deactivate the API, restart APCC, and then ENABLE it again in order for the Driver to update ! This is just insane. I still don't get it why the Driver kept behaving like this. Sorry for the "bulk mail".

APCC had nothing to do with this issue. In your screenshot of the ASCOM driver, you clearly have the REST API selected, so the ASCOM driver will not be able to connect to the mount through a USB COM port. Unchecking the option for "IP Addr" in the driver's setup window will allow a connecting to the USB COM ports again.
