Eagle Tripod Cover Plate

Has anyone implemented a cover plate to put on the bottom of the Eagle tripod? I’d like to put an hook on the bottom to anchor the tripod down to keep it from tipping over during suddenly storms. Also, it keeps the critters out of the tube when setup out in the field. I was able to do this with my iOptron Tri-Pier using their mini-pier plate. AP doesn’t seem to have a similar plate to use for the Eagle tripod. A flat cover adapter plate would certainly be a great offering to allow adapting a mount to the Eagle tripod. I’ve emailed them about it. In the meantime, just curious what options are available and what others may have done. Thanks.

Looking at the Mach2GTO base, it looks like such a flat plate is used as an adapter for the mount. I’m wondering if this flat plate is available to purchase?

Mel,

There is not a plate to use on the bottom of the Eagle pier.

Regards,

George

OK. Looks like DiscMounts has a plate that will work. Thanks.

Mel – I’m sorry if I’ve missed something, but would you please tell us what you’re connecting to what?  It appears you’re looking for a plate for the top of the Eagle pier – or do I have that incorrect?  What are you looking to put on top of said plate?

Thanks,

Karen

Nothing is being mounted on the plate equipment wise. Although if one wanted to adapt their own mount to the Eagle tripod, a flat plate would be useful!

I would like a flat plate to put on the bottom of the tube to keep critters out and add a hook to anchor down the rig. The same flat plate could be used on the top also for storage aesthetics and a place to attach the 1/4” 20 knobs. Mainly the bottom plate is required because I don’t want the tube to remain open.

I realize this is not something usually requested. Just customizing my new setup so it is fully ready for its first field test.  Thanks for your concern.

Something like this I did for my iOptron Tri-Pier:

Hello Mel,

Thank you for the additional explanation.  You’re correct that we don’t offer anything that would meet your need.  I hope the other solution you found works well.

This plate will work on the Eagle pier:
DiscMounts DM-6 to AP tripod adapter

This one would probably work just as well:
