Dec Arc Modeling tool in NINA

Jim Crumly

Hi everyone
I have a couple of questions, been watching the videos on the DEC Arc Modeling and have a question.
I have a Davis weather station sending my data to weather underground, and NINA reads it. :-)
1. in the Video on APPM settings, they mention weather as a parameter. Can APPM pull my weather data from NINA and use it?
2. in the Video on the AP tools in NINA it does not mention weather, but again does it, or can it pull my weather data from NINA and use it?

Thanks
Clear Skys
Jim

APCC can read information from an ASCOM Weather app.  Then use that temp, humidity, and potentially pressure when building a model and doing the refraction correction.  There may be other ways to get the information, but an ASCOM weather app works great.

Thanks Patrick

I didn’t really want to buy another weather station, check out the prices on a Davis Vantage Pro2.

It works fine in NINA. I also send my weather data to CWOP which is a civilian weather network which QA’s my station every day.

Ill check the ASCOM weather app and see how it works.

HI Jim

Any ASCOM compliant weather source will work, unfortunately Davis is more of a consumer type application and lacks an official one

However, there's some discussion and a project for ASCOM driver for the Davis Weather Station
I don't have any experience with it, but here's the links:

Brian, Patrick

I did go on the open weather map it seemed to work. Ill have to check the readings against my station. They could be picking up my weather from CWOP or the Davis network.

Ill also check out the Davis ASCOM links.

Patrick, Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Brian, Thanks for the links Ill check them out.

Ok I have another question. How close does the environmental paramotors have to be.

With open weather map I can get my city but not my exact station. So, my temp is about 2-3 degrees F. off, pressure is 10-20 mb off, when I click the test button in APPC.

Is this close enough.

Hi Jim

I think that is fine for the initial.

Can you connect to that same source while imaging?

What's just as important is having access to a consistent temperature source that has the same measurements.

Perhaps it would depend on focal length and/or image scale.  My scopes range from 380 mm to 1000 mm focal length.  I enter the temperature and pressure parameters manually when I do an APPM mapping run and then “try” and update manually through the night.  I keep a s app battery powered thermometer/pressure meter at the scope.  However,  I am frequently a degree or two Centigrade off - sometimes more - at various random times throughout the night.  So for my setup it isn’t too critical as long as I am in the ballpark.   I still end up with perfectly round stars.  Your mileage may vary,  experiment and see what happens.

How are you sending your weather data to CWOP?  I'm using the third party meteobridge software to do this.  I've written an Alpaca based ASCOM driver to get the weather data from the meteobridge.  APCC has no problem getting it from my driver.  That won't help you if you're not using meteobridge though.

Hi Alex

I’m using the “weatherlink live” wifi  to the Davis cloud then to CWOP

I do have a weatherlink data logger software from Davis only problem its hard wired to the console.

I also send my weather data to CWOP which is a civilian weather network which QA’s my station every day.

Ill check the ASCOM Davis driver and see how it works with the data logger. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try the metrobridge, and I’ll be in touch for the driver.

Thanks for the heads up.

Jim

I got the Davis logger to work on my computer so I know I’m getting data that far. Now I try the ASCOM driver in APCC I get a message that “Object reference not set to an instance of an object”

How do I set the Object Reference?

Thanks
