APCC with Mach 2 problems
Michael SUSSMAN
I am brand new to AP and a neophyte at the same time. I have a couple of questions using APCC with my new Mach 2.
1) I wanted to know if it is possible and how, if so, to set APCC back to its default settings. Or do I need to uninstall and reinstall it? 2). I noticed that everything time I connect my mount, I have to initialize and it changes my virtual ports from 21 and 22 to low numbers. What do I need to do so every time I connect, this doesn’t happen? |

Hi Michael,
Welcome, and congrats on your new Mach2!

Uninstalling will not delete the settings. The settings are contained in this file, which you can delete or rename:
C:\ProgramData\Astro-Physics\APCC\Settings.apcc
> 2). I noticed that everything time I connect my mount, I have to initialize and it changes my virtual ports from 21 > and 22 to low numbers. What do I need to do so every time I connect, this doesn’t happen?
1. Start APCC manually. 2. Click the "Virtual Ports" tab. 3. Delete the top two virtual ports if they are set. 4. Set the top port to COM20 and the second to COM21. You don’t need to create them yet, as they will be created the next time you start APCC. See this screenshot:
5. In the Mount group box, check Auto-Connect, and uncheck Create Virtual Ports first. In the AP V2 Driver group box, uncheck Auto-Connect, and check Auto-Config. See this screenshot showing this configuration:
6. Close APCC and restart it. APCC should now allocate COM20 and COM21.
IMPORTANT: APCC creates virtual COM ports when it starts and destroys them when it exits. If you “kill” APCC via task manager, APCC will not get a chance to destroy the virtual ports it created. If that happens APCC will have to select new virtual ports the next time it starts, which may begin with lower COM port numbers.

Hey Ray,
I have been following some of the discussions about the Virtual Ports, and you have mentioned the REST API being a better option, to some degree. Should users be migrating to REST over Virtual Ports? I could see how the REST API would be more robust.
Thanks,
Bill
