APCC new install error

midmoastro

I'm installing APCC on a new Intel NUC and having some issues that I didnt have with my prior laptop install.
I've been following the document and dont think I've missed anything.
I installed in this order:
1. Update to .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later (if needed) ( I actually have 3.5 and 4.8 installed)
2. Install the ASCOM Platform 6.5 SP1 (complete)
3. Install the AP V2 ASCOM Driver (complete)
4. Install APCC (complete)

I also saw the black box pop up but never got a prompt to install the Eltima software. So maybe this is the issue?
I entered my software key in APCC without issue.

After launching APCC, I get the following error. Any ideas what this may be related to? Did I miss something?

what version of APCC are you installing?

I agree it sounds like an issue with Eltima software, although it should install (silently i believe) with APCC

Thank you Brian. I installed: APCC Pro v1.9.0.11
I looked to see if Eltima showed in Add/Remove programs but couldnt find it there.
I also went to my current working laptop to see if it was installed there as well and could not find it so its hard to tell if it installed correct or not.
Or if that is in fact the issue

Try the current beta installer instead? There are a bunch of improvements in this area.

Same error. I wonder if I need to remove other files/remnants after the uninstall of APCC 1.9.0.11?

The kind of error you're getting makes me wonder. Uninstall APCC, then try installing again (the beta) but this time, right click the installer .exe file and "Run as administrator"

Uninstalled. Right-clicked and ran as admin but still the same issue. Is a reboot needed between the uninstall and reinstall?
Very odd.

midmoastro

reboot in between makes no difference. After the install, though, there are several settings files left over. Im thinking about deleting everything under the Astro-Physics folder and trying it again. I can replace that stuff with the content of my laptop which does work.

checking the error log first, I do see the following:

Ray would likely have deeper knowledge of what might (not) be happening here. The only remaining thing I can think of is that anti-virus is pulling shenanigans. Are you running anything other than the stock Windows Defender? If so, I would try disabling it temporarily while installing APCC. I presume you're running Windows 10?

You’re right - that’s exactly what happened to me and I tried all the solutions you’ve been describing.  I finally solved it by getting a different NUC as described in the topic you attached.  What NUC are you using?

Thanks, Bob

Only using Windows Defender. No other AV solution.

Bob, I hope you are wrong ;-)

You probably may not see the Eltima install window, especially if it is failing to register its ActiveX control. We don't have any control over the Eltima installer, but we have seen more install failures in devices that lack native COM port hardware, like some brands of small form factor mini PCs (e.g. an Intel NUC). I suspect there is a missing Windows DLL used by the Eltima ActiveX control, thus the control fails to register. Unfortunately, Eltima has not been able to provide a 100% guaranteed solution yet.

However, if you haven't already, it is important to install all of the manufacturer's drivers for your device and make sure Windows is up to date, including any optional updates. After doing this uninstall APCC from Control Panel, then reinstall it.

Ray, I keep everything up to date. There were some optional updates that were 'intel' related and i installed those, rebooted, and tried again but same error.
I watched the Application event log and this is what is triggered every time I install APCC

I think you are correct in that this regsrv32 is not allowing things to register correctly

Regsvr32 is a command-line utility to register and unregister OLE controls, such as DLLs and ActiveX controls in the Windows Registry. Regsvr32.exe is installed in the %systemroot%\System32 folder in Windows XP and later versions of Windows.

Had/have this exact same problem (see thread above). I uninstalled/installed Windows 11 with all the Win updates. Again I encountered the error above.  Did another uninstall/install of Win11 without ANY (Win) updates. Now the Eltima works fine? These updates come in bundles - Im not savvy enough to determine which one is causing the problem. Maybe this is something Eltima could troubleshoot Ray. I have a newer Dell computer with USB-C ports.

For what it's worth, I've been through this same exercise (re-install windows 11 from scratch) on a new MeLE Quieter 2 and also on an old NUC7i5BNK. I was successful after making sure I was fully up to date with Windows Update, but also, installing Optional Updates under Advanced Options. When I took a look at Device Manager, in both cases there was some hardware without any attached drivers until did that last step.

Hope this helps,

    Tom

Thank you Tom, I appreciate this. Going to try reinstall this evening if i get time. Been a crazy day so far.
For the NUC, did you reinstall the drivers from their support page or just let Windows update handle everything?
