[ap-ug] It's a cold one tonight

Roland Christen

Thanks.
With the 110 GTX I'm looking at M42 with both a 4.8 Nagler and my 13 Ethos. The field in the Ethos takes in the entire sword of Orion - all 3 stars and then some. The nebula looks like a mythical winged creature. The 4 Trapezium stars stand out as tiny pinpricks. With the 4.8 Nagler the Trapezium shows all 6 stars, well separated and still tiny pinpricks. I remember a similar view about 30 years ago using my 105 Traveler from the front steps of my house, except this view seems more crisp (probably because I'm freezing).

I remember that night with the Traveler on the front steps. It was on an alt-az mount and we had to keep nudging it to keep the image in the eyepiece. That was an extra challenge to see all 6 stars since they wouldn’t sit still!

You both are fortuate to have a life partners that shares in your passion.  A gift from above.  Tiny pinpricks in 15 below.  Not sure I would brave that weather.  Get ready Chris.
