AP1200GTO - PEMPRO Read Factory PEC Curve
rboudah@...
Can I use PEMPRO V3.00.46 to read and save the factory installed PEC curve before creating a new one, to compare and just in case reload it.
The mount is an AP1200GTO with CP3 Rev L When I ask PEMPRO to read from the mount I get a table of 970 rows with 0 in the first row and 255 in all the rest. Rick |

Rick, I think PemPro V3 will require a V2 chip. Should say on the PemPro web page. I use it with a 1200...but I have the V2. I am ordering the V2 chip but I read you lose the PEC curve when you put in the new chip, so I thought I might be able to upload the current factory one first . Even if I can't download it to the mount it would be nice to see the original factory curve and compare it with the new one I make.

I read the upgrade information here:
Since you are upgrading from the L chip you will have to redo the PEM and you cannot save the existing curve and just upload it as per this document:
To accommodate the added features of these newer chips,
the location in the GTOCP3's non-volatile memory where time, location, gear angle and PE information is permanently stored has been changed.
Ray will need to chime in on if you can read the existing curve from the mount in PEMPro (I would think so, but he is the expert) but that may not be as useful as you would think -- since the worm will have changed over time and the factory curve you have in
the mount is likely invalid anyhow. Especially if by factory curve, you mean one that is quite a few years old.
If it were me, I would just plan to get a very good set of data for the new curve and have enough time set aside to obtain the data, validate the data, and even explore a refined curve (basically your first curve + the validation curve = new curve) if the residual
error you find is too high for your liking. My experience with PEMPro on AP mounts has been that refined curves really are not needed since PEMPro does an excellent job of correcting AP mount PE.
HTH,
Bill

The curves go out of date in any case. I redo mine yearly. Also, the factory curves use a limited amount of data collection. You can let the run go much longer and get a cleaner result. It isn't a difficult process, although there is a bit of learning in fitting a curve to the data. Steve On Tue, Nov 15, 2022 at 11:35 PM Bill Long <bill@...> wrote:
