Comet ZTF 2022 E3

Here is my first light image with the epsilon 160ED riding atop the 900 GTO mount.
This scope started out life as defective, made the round trip to Japan. Now all is good.

I used a DSLR with 4.8 micron pixels. (Nikon D810a). With outdoor temps around 20-25F, no need for any cooling.

How long was each exposure and how many subs did you stack?
I was out tonight to see the comet, but could hardly see anything due to near full Moon washing out the sky.

Hi Roland,
I used 30 sec subs. 60 secs and the comet was obviously trailing. Even 30 secs leads to some trailing if guiding on a star like I did.
I stacked about 120 exposures.
I imaged on Saturday when it was really bright. I had to wait until 2 AM for the moon to go down.

In hindsight, I should have guided on the comet but that is what experience is for.

Results is what counts and you got it.

If you have access to PixInsight, then you might try the updated Comet Alignment process.  It can use either star aligned or comet aligned subs.

If you have access to the Masters of PixInsight website, then there is a Quick Tutorial on the CA process.

Full sized image is worth visiting - looks far better than the email version, which seems to suffer from some sort of posterization in my email reader

great job

A stunning image with excellent framing, the Epsilons  are certainly among the best comet catchers out there !
