Yes, I agree, the visual image was breathtaking, and looked almost 3-D to me. No image can capture what we saw thru the eyepiece.

Our clouds broke about 8 local time, but there was a layer of light fog in the air. Mars was more of a tomato soup with milk color with the markings and polar cap visible, in contrast to the brilliant white light of the moon. Just plain beautiful. Two images of 60X and 120X were wonderful perspectives of the occultation. I am still amazed how good it looked with the little 92 Stowaway.
BTW I got out of church at 8:15, drove across town to my home, and set up the scope on its DM-4 mount in time to invite the neighbors to come view with us. The older I get, the more I appreciate a high quality, small telescope. LOL.

Thanks, but it's actually the camera that was steady, shooting at 1/1000 sec freezes the action. The 5 frames don't quite line up, so I had to line them up manually in Photoshop.

Visually it was a stunning sight in the 12" Mak-Cass with a wide-field eyepiece. Marj and I took turns to see the tiny planet emerge from the western part of the Moon. I grabbed my Sony digital camera, removed the eyepiece and shot this scene (attached) as Mars was pulling away. Hand held above the 2" diagonal, 1/1000 second @ASA800, Sony NEX7.
