USB / Serial and WIFI connection #Mach2GTO

Hello,
I had a Mach1 GTOCP4 for 1 year and I used it in my observatory. I happened to use the WIFI connection to do positioning with Skysafari, but I did not if at the same time I had the USB / Serie connection active with the connection on my PC and APPC open. With my new Mach2 and the GTOCP5, I already connected by WIFI with Skysafari, but since with the connection to the PC (during the photo sessions) I noticed that the access point was not active so invisible in the network WIFI whether from PC or smartphone, however it appears when APPC is disconnected from the mount. It seems to me to have understood that the USB / Serie connection could be done by a virtual port. True or false? This allows to connect to the GTOCP5 in another way (except keypad) and therefore can be by WIFI.The question is therefore is it possible to have active at the same time, a USB / Serie connection on the PC and a connection by WIFI on the smartphone?

Thanks

Dominique

Yes, certainly.

The question is how? I tried what I seem to have understood on the APCC manual ... but without success.
When the connection port is a virtual port the impossibility to connect flashing is displayed.

I connect my Mach2 directly from the laptop 4 ways simultaneously. One connection is with USB cord going from USB connector on the laptop directly to the USB connector on the mount. i connect SkyX, MaximDL and PHD2 via this simple connection on one com port. I can do this directly with only the ASCOM driver connected or with APCC connected and the 3 programs connected thru virtual com ports. Both work easily and always.

My second connection is a direct Ethernet cable going from my laptop Ethernet connector directly to the CP5 Ethernet input. With this connection I can communicate directly with the mount via the AP terminal mode.

My third connection can be via wifi and smart phone apps.

My 4th connection is the keypad which I can use for many different functions.

All 4 connections work seamlessly together. The first one requires setting up the AP ASCOM driver. The rest are stand-alone.

Thanks George and Rolando,

All software connections work well via virtual ports since I did the modeling and I use a mapping software without worries. What happens is when I turn on the mount and it is not connected to the PC in USB / Serie, the WIFI network GTOGP5_Net_25 is active and appears in the list of networks on my smartphone (and on the PC ), but when I connect the mount to the PC, the GTOCP5_NET_25 network disappears.Perhaps there is a parameter to modify on the GTOCP5 by the Ethernet or WIFI connection if it is not connected to the PC?

Yes, it is possible to have both active at the same time.

I also believe it Rolando, because I am sure that with my mach1 GTOCP4 it worked. But how? There I do not understand, when I connect the USB cable to my PC the GTOCP5_Net_25 network which was displayed in my WIFI networks disappears.

I will find out for you.

Hello Dominoque,

here is the answer from our software engineer:

I cannot say what is happening.  There is no logical interaction between the USB and the WiFi.  It makes no sense, not something we’ve seen.  Only explainable it there is a RF environment/interference problem.

There are a bunch of questions to consider:
Are they powering the unit from a battery or from a bench power supply (potential ground loop)?
Does the behavior change if the laptop power supply is disconnected, and run only on batteries (potential ground loop eliminated)?
Does the Access Point re-appear if the USB is unplugged, or does it require a power cycle to recover the Access Point?
Are they looking for the presence of the Access Point on the same PC they connecting to USB, or are they looking at the Access Point on a cell phone (PC setting or FTDI driver problem)?
Are they trying to use the equipment in the field, or do they have internet access available?  If internet access is available, it means there is a router, and they should be connecting the CP5 to the network, not connecting something to the CPx Access Point.
Is the WiFi antenna tangled up in harnesses to the mount (guaranteed RF problem)?

Mike

Hello Rolando,
Thank you for all its tracks to study.
After having made an 86 point modeling on a MES to improve, r I made for 5 consecutive nights photos without 3 'and 4' guidance without worries, we can say that the mach2 immediately showed "professionalism" .
I enjoy myself.Goodbye PHD2 + DO + Camera.
Tonight with a very present moon so I refined my polar alignment and I launched a larger model.I look tomorrow and tell you what it is.  What is surprising is that I am in my observatory and my GTOCP4 worked almost in the same way. PC connection via RS232 + FDTI converter. So I will also try with direct USB and Ethernet connections.
Thank you so much Rolando for having designed this wonder.

Thank you Rolando,
Regarding the GTOCP5 WIFI network shutdown.
Everything is connected to the electrical network (220V) by transformers in 19.6v for the PC, 24v for the mount and in 12v for the rest (Powerbox, Camera, ...).
To follow the presence or not of the WIFI network GTOCP5 I used my cell phone. I connected to it and also connected Skysafari which synchronizes well on the position of my mount. I saw that it also appeared on my PC.
1 .When I connect the USB3 plug to my PC, an MSI QE62VR 7TRF apache Pro, whether it works on battery or on the electrical network, the WIFI GTOCP5 network disappears, if I unplug the USB3 plug, the WIFI GTOCP5 network reappears.
2. When the USB3 plug is connected to the PC and therefore there is no more GTOCP5 network, if I hold the WIFI antenna of the GTOCP5 between my fingers the WIFI network reappears, Then disappears if I release the antenna. It's weird isn't it?
3. When I plug the USB3 plug into the USB2 port of my PC, there is no problem, the WIFI GTOCP5 network does not disappear.
4. When I use my wife's PC (Sony Vaio ultrabook) and I plug into one of the USB3 ports, the WIFI network does not disappear.
I conclude that in this case I have a problem with the USB3 ports of my MSI PC and for information on the USB ports I unchecked the power saving function of the power manager.
