Two instances of Astro-Physics V2 driver open

I open APCC connect to mount in APCC connect to Astro-Physics V2 driver in APCC Open PHD2 it opens a SECOND instance of the Astro-Physics V2 driver Now even if PHD is doing something wrong, I can't imagine two instances of the Astro-Physics V2 driver should be allowed to open on the same computer. Am I wrong? Is there ever a situation where two instances of the Astro-Physics V2 driver open on the same PC is legitimate? I am running an AP-900 mount & an AP-1600 mount for the first time ever in the observatory, on the same network. Each mount is controlled by a separate laptop, each are connected via TCP/UDP with two distinct IP addresses. When I DO NOT open an instance of the Astro-Physics V2 driver in APCC and allow PHD2 to open an instance everything runs like it should. I get about two clear nights a year, software errors are bad. call me frustrated. Steve retired software developer. p.s. I am running windows10.

If the above is true, is there some way I can run them under my admin account without admin privs?

While we are at it….the Voyageur software program is automatically run as an Admin program and it too will also open up a second AP V2 driver – whether APCC is run as Admin or not – how do you resolve this problem?

Running an application "as administrator" runs the application under a special Windows account different from your user account. Very easy to determine, take a screenshot of the two drivers and APCC Window and I bet one of them will show it is running as an admin. So, whatever program attempted to launch the second driver (PHD2 in this case) was running in a different user context. The
screenshot will tell us which one is doing it.

Very easy to determine, take a screenshot of the two drivers and APCC Window and I bet one of them will show it is running as an admin. So, whatever program attempted to launch the second driver (PHD2 in this case) was running in a different user context. The
screenshot will tell us which one is doing it.

There is no other way the double driver scenario could happen though. If these are truly the only steps taken, that is:

The bolded one is where an application differed in terms of user context, and launched a second instance of the AP V2 Driver.
When you opened any of these were you presented with a UAC window asking you to provide consent for the application to run? If so, that application was running in Admin mode.

I had the same problem. Fixed it by NOT connecting to the ASCOM driver in APCC. So you connect to the mount but do not connect to the driver. Then, when Voyager and all other programs connect to the ASCOM driver it is automatically opened and they all connect to it. Also, in APCC, in the Virtual Ports tab you will see 4 ports. Port 1 (COM11 on my system) is used by the APCC ASCOM driver. Port 2 (COM12 on mine) is used by external programs. Both should be created but only the second one is used. Craig

To take this a step further, here is a hypothetical thing that could occur:
Now, if you do not have Voyager opening PHD2 for you, and you open it yourself, PHD2 (unless you tell it to run as Admin) will run in User Mode context, and when you connect to your mount in this scenario -- a second driver will spawn as the process does
not have access to the Admin mode driver already running.
