Re-Greasing AP900 GTO
Vince Salfranc
I have just purchased a second hand AP900 but unknowing to me the previous owner had re-greased the DEC probably with the wrong grease. The DEC without any telescope mounted is turning freely just a little bit of stiffness but nothing to worry about. As soon as the telescope is fitted to the mount the DEC become so stiff that i can hardly move it. The 4 clutch knobs are totally loosen. I think i need to re-grease the DEC but I am unable to find any information as how to carry out the procedure and which grease should i use for the purpose. Please help as I don't think i can use the mount as it stands and I spent all my available income on this mount. Thank you for your help. Vince |

Vince What you describe sounds more like a clutch plug problem rather than a grease problem. Grease would not cause the degree of stiffness that you describe. I would get hold of George at AP and go over the problem with him. There is a clutch plug replacement procedure and a tool you can get from AP to remove and replace the plugs. Vince, if it does turn out to be the grease, check out Scott Hammonds' video on regreasing his AP1200 mount: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7s2kTzFNF4 Stuart On Mon, Mar 7, 2016 at 9:17 AM, Don Anderson jockey_ca@... [ap-gto] <ap-gto@...> wrote:

HI,
AP has got in touch with me and they are sorting my problem out. I must say that it is very nice that a company take the time to solve my problem especially when I bought the mount on the second hand market. AP after sale service is simply amazing and I am not use to such a service. Thank you AP and everyone for your help. Vince |
