AP ASCOM driver runtime error
Donghun
Hi, I started getting this error and when the error happens, the mount is disconnected from my PC. If I unplug and plug the USB again, I can reconnect to the mount from the PC. Here is the capture of the error message. AP ascom error (Donghun) | AstroBin Can someone especially Ray have any idea why this is happening? Thank you. Donghun

Well, the driver is written in VB6, not C++, and the error says it is a C++ run-time error, so it must be something the driver is calling. The error doesn’t give many clues so I’m not sure what to advise. Maybe if you posted a log file?

Hi Ray,
Where can I find the log? Thank you. Donghun

There is a AP Log Zipper utility that is installed with the driver (it's mentioned in the help file).

Also, which operating system, control box, and mount you are using? -Ray Gralak Author of Astro-Physics Command Center (APCC) Author of PEMPro: http://www.ccdware.com Author of Astro-Physics V2 ASCOM Driver: http://www.gralak.com/apdriver Author of PulseGuide: http://www.pulseguide.com Author of Sigma: http://www.gralak.com/sigma

Ray,
I will post the log files when I get home. I use Windows 7 and Mach1GTO. I'm not sure about the control box. Do you mean the chip revision? Thank you. Donghun

Hi Ray,
Here is the log archive. I'm seeing these warnings in the log. 000043 2014-06-05 23:43:54.189: Telescope: Warning : Retransmits: 1 000044 2014-06-05 23:43:54.211: Driver: Info : CommandString TX=':GZ#' 000045 2014-06-05 23:43:54.222: Telescope: Warning : Retransmits: 2 Does it mean I have a bad cable somewhere?

Retransmits indicate a hardware (serial port) problem. If you are using a USB/serial converter and the USB cable came loose the port might have disappeared. Sounds like the low-level USB/serial driver, if you are using one, could have caused the issue.

Hi Ray,
I've been using this USB/serial driver without a problem about two years. Is it more likely USB/serial cable problem or the serial cable itself? Thank you very much. Donghun

Could be the cable or the actual device. Just because a device has been working for two years doesn't guarantee it will continue to work correctly forever. Most devices seem to have a one-year warranty so you can probably figure that a certain percentage of devices will start to fail after that.

Considering these things aren’t that expensive and it’s needed to image I would think it wise to have a spare cable and convertor just in case. It’s the weakest link in most cases.

Thank you guys.
I will get a new USB/Serial cable first. The trouble is that this doesn't happen all the time but only happens once in a while so it is difficult to find out what the faulty part is. Donghun

Could be a dirty/oxidized/damaged connector.
