The Awesome 1200
markdambrosio@...
Hi, Folks, Addressing the paint chipping on the 1200, Under close
examination, i had noticed slight chipping on Roland's 1200 GTO at the Astrofest party. This was in areas which a cap bolt tightened down on the mount. (Just a couple of small areas, and was very minor) I'm quite sure this was not the first time Roland used this mount. After noticing this, i immediately asked Roland if touch-up paint would be available to a customer, and he said "Yes it is". Possibly, and owner could utilize thin nylon washers at these key areas to prevent cosmetic damage. Something i will be looking at when i recieve mine. After owning a Losmandy mount, i did grow tired of the all black anodizing. Bang this up, and there is no real way to properly fix it. Iv'e tried on a couple of areas with Aluma-Black from Gun Shops, and Black Magic Marker, and it just doesn't look right. I prefer the paint finish myself, as it will be easier to repair in case of a mishap. Mark |

reduce image shift when tightening down. After I purchased my nylon washers - alignment was much easier. -----Original Message-----

If touch-up paint is available, that's very good news. I need about a pint.

;-) I refer to paint chipping along any of the leading edges of the mount. Any slightest bump, and the paint is gone. Another problem with the balck anodizing is that it fades with exposure to strong UV. Just try leaving your G11 out in the sun all day. :-/ John Gleason, dvj@... http://home.earthlink.net/~dvj/ ---------- From: markdambrosio@... |

I prefer the paint finish the paint matches. Getting the "Textured Look" may take a bit of practice. I guess contacting AP would be in order to find out availability. As far as anodizing goes, yes i guess it makes sense to protect it as much as possible. I'll probably get me a nice big Desert Storm cover. AP's anodizing is the best that i have ever seen. Vastly superior to Losmandy's work IMO. My HGM-200 had very beat up legs, (Custom Ordered 60") from when they were brand new. Complaining to Scott did no good, he said they are all like that. Other dings, and scratches elswhere too. He did replace the complete Saddle, and the DEC gear cover. (Due to damage, and very shoddy anodizing) I was always somewhat dissatisfied with the mount. His QC isn't as good as it should be. Looks like stuff gets thrown around after it's manufactured. Mark |
