Microphones for DSV

Hello everyone,
What type of microphones and computer combinations have you found to work best with the DSV. My desktop is a Pentium II 350 with 128MB RAM, and my laptop is a Pentium 120 with 48MB Ram(was only 16) with a dual scan screen. There was up to a four fold improvement when I added the extra 32MB RAM. AS expected the built in mic. in the laptop had terible recognition. The desktop mic. worked fair with the laptop. At Staples I tried a Andrea NC50 for $15. It would not work with either computer. Their was too much background noise according to the set up wizard. I returned it and bought a Labtec C-315 Headset/Boom Microphone for same price and it was the same style as the Andrea. The Labtec works with both computers. It has higher recognition than the desktop type microphone. Labtec makes a couple of microphones that are more suited for voice recognition which are in the $30 to $50 range. My recognition is not 100%, so a better microphone should help and at the same time I need to work on speaking more distinctly. Also the dual scan is fair for showing the display.

I recommend the Radio Shack micorphone mentioned in the manual. And/or if
you want to spend the money the microphone from Shure also mentioned in the
manual available through Astro-Physics works very well.
Remmeber you want to have a microphone with sufficent output voltage
to get signal to my voice engine.

Inside the users manual there is an excellent choice for two microphones.
One is the radio/shack one, but I do not know if that is even available in
France. the other is a shure microphone that you can buy directly from A/P
..which I recommend.

p.s I belive the shure 16 microphone for DSV is around 85.00 us.
dollars..this is VERY high end microphone specifically designed for voice
recognition softeware like DSV!

we have (that i know of about 10 users now using a wireless mike) they are using the R/S wireless microphone a few and three of the others that I know are using the Shure wireless mircophone, one in particular is using the wireless for some time now... but that one is a little more expensive then the radio shack wireless. Here is nice store, one of my users is using the wireless and as he goes for a cup of coffee, talks to DSV gets the scope on the next object and by the time he comes back to the scope the object he wishes is ready and waiting for him in the eyepiece...really neat! -= Charles Sinsofsky p.s. any decent wireless micrphone with out too much static background noise will work fine with DSV. First you should email me or A/P directly for this type of thing. It is VERY unusal for A/P to make a mistake like that via shipping. ie: to forget a manual. I see to it that another one is sent you way my friend. To all others DSV has to include the users manual, because the package that it comes in requires it. dollars retail up here in canada. It is incredibly lite, and very sensitive. It also uses a battery powered amp that the mike is plugged into. Unfortunatly I can not remember the actual model number, it is at home and I am at my office while I write this. While I feel this is a excellent headset, it is 'over priced'. I originaly bought it because in the early days of showing off DSV I had no real idea what type of mikes would work and what would not...this headset is part of my equipment set that I used when I first EVER showed DSV at the StarFest convention some 4 years ago. For the money now adays, and after much testing with my voice engine and tts output system I woul not consider the AKG required. There are many good headsets on the marketplace that work GREAT with DSV.
