I switched to ASTAP for my plate solves with SGP and am seeing what is probably the same issue described in the first post of this thread. In my case, when I do a modeling run in APPM, everything work

Problem with PEMPRO polar alignment
If you use MaxIm, you should be able to download the GSC 1.1 catalog and solve directly from within MaxIm. Once you’ve solved, you can both sync the mount to the solved coordinates and also calibrate
