Patrick, Look into the Losmandy HD tripod/pier that AP offers. Leveling and height adjustment, folding, easy storage. I use it with my 1100 and I love it. (PS: The wife will too) - jg

1100 mount production
I routinely travel with my 1100GTO mount. Attaching or removing the dec axis takes less than a minute and the resulting individual components are lightweight and easy to pack. It's all the other stuff

Over-mounting reasons are obvious. I have typically run my Tak FSQ with 16803 camera, filter wheel, atlas focuser, guidescope on my AP 1200. Not over-mounted by any means. I can also carry my 155 edf

Capacity check on AP 1100
In my humble opinion, my 1100 is just adequate for the AP 10" by itself. I would probably only be satisfied with a 1600 under it. But I am weird that way. ;-) -j
