Below shows a short session where I used a simple Keypad Dec arc model to keep the star (Arcturus) on the crosshairs of my imaging camera.

I do a lot of testing of modeling using both APCC-APPM and the keypad models.

I do have a keypad, but never use it when imaging… I do use it for visual tho.

Can a keypad be used to create a pointing model? I seem to recall a thread from Roland that it can, maybe it is in the manual and I will to look. Thank you again to everyone.

I would start by using the mount with PEC enabled, and just use the keypad if that Mach1 comes with a keypad.

As of right now my plan is to polar align my mount as close as I can with SC and do a 2 star calibration with my AP1200 keypad, connect Cartes du Ciel or SkySafari Pro 7 and see just

In the case of the keypad, this model resides in the CP4/5 controller, rather than on a laptop, so it can be used in the field without a laptop for someone that just wants to do imaging

Otherwise, if you have a Mach2 with the CP5 controller and a keypad, there is a tracking model available via the keypad. I think that it's also a dec arc tracking method.

The keypad automatically sends Lunar rate when the Moon is chosen, solar rate when the sun is chosen and sidereal rate when any other object is chosen.

(I run the model building while doing other things like eating dinner.) I presume by "HC" you are referring to the "hand controller"... the GTO Keypad.

In the same way, you don't need absolute encoders for deep-sky imaging, nor dual-pointing model, nor dual-tracking rate, nor a mount with < 4 arsec periodic error.

I made a 40 star (so far) model using TPoint in The Sky 6 pro.

I have been using this feature of the V5 Keypad since I set up anew each night for the most part and found that my cone error changed slightly night to night.

Hi John, You don't need to capture a "good" ortho model to "erase" it. Just run the keypad procedure, but do NOT make any N-S-E-W centering corrections.

If you are using APCC Pro with a model, then recalibrating from the keypad will not be accurate.

I never intend to create a Keypad Pointing Model -- I only plan to use the Keypad Ortho Model).

What you should not do is to create a keypad ortho model after making an APCC model, since that will negate the one in APCC. Roland
