Re: Any APPM/ZWO Camera Users Out There?

Thanks much Ray for pointing this out about the RA and DEC information.  I was not sure if it was needed or not when the error messages popped up that it was not present in the FITS file.  Hoping to get out some night this week if we get some clear skies and try it out.  Thanks again for the help!  Scott

Scott,

Sorry my time has been extremely limited this week.

RA and Dec are passed by APPM to pinpoint before plate solving so there should be no need for them in the FITS file.

Ray: Thank you so much for doing this! I fired up the mount and camera and tried the updated APCC Pro you
attached. The Date-Obs. issue is resolved but still not seeing the RA/DEC data in the FITS image header. I'm
attaching what I saw for messages. I should note that I had un-parked the mount and then went to APPM and tried
plate solving under the run tab with the ASCOM camera selected and ASI camera (1). I don't know if this is any
big deal but with ASI camera (1) selected it shows up as ASCOM.ASICamera2.Camera. The FITS image header
though does call out camera (1). Is there some setting I might have incorrect in APCC that would cause the RA
and DEC coordinates not to show up in the FITS image header or is this something to manually add like you did
for the Date-Obs.? Thanks so much again Ray for all that you do and please work my issue in whenever it fits
(bad choice of words!) in to your schedule. All the best, Scott

'allo what's this then. an update to APCC??

Yes, I have confirmed the mount is level.  I am testing this now inside on a concrete platform.  I get consistently different results in daytime alignment routines depending on whether I use Park 1/2 or Park 4/2.  If I level the CW shaft in Park 1, then slew to Park 4, the CW shaft is about 3-4° off level (measured with a digital clinometer.

It is starting to look that way but wished I could get the ASCOM camera driver in APPM to work like the manual
says. I already paid the $150 to get the full version PinPoint as heard this was quicker than Plate Solve 2 through
SGP (I don't know if there is any truth to it). Also being a N.I.N.A user I was trying to avoid adding another

Re: Should Park 1 and Park 4 be parallel?

Worsel

It occurred to me (duhh) that your difference is measured using a level, not the mount readings.

If that is so, then would not that mean the mount is not level?  This is not a big deal for PA.

Bryan

Re: Should Park 1 and Park 4 be parallel?

Worsel

I think Forrest is asking if it is normal to have a 3-4 degree difference between Park 1 and 4.

I normally do not use Park 1.  However, I went out and moved back and forth between 1 and 4.  The difference is less than 20 a-s. across both axes.

However, I defer to A-P on the real answer!

Thanks so much Ray for any help you can give me!  It's interesting that when I first started looking for help on this I approached the PinPoint forum about this issue they pointed me to the imaging acquisition program as writing the FITS image header (APPM, see attached feedback I got from their forum). That's why I came to this forum. Hopefully you can understand my confusion and by no means am a software expert! I apologize if I've been barking up the wrong tree!  All the best and thanks for your help, Scott

Yes, Park 1 and Park 4 are parallel with the OTA pointing north (Park 1) or south (Park 2). In the Park 2 position the OTA is also parallel to the ground facing East, but it is in the counterweight down position.

Re: Any APPM/ZWO Camera Users Out There?

Ray Gralak

I hate to state the obvious but (as I said before) APPM sets the Date-Obs field using PinPoint's own method, so if it isn't getting set then maybe there is a bug in the version of PinPoint that you are using. You would think even if that field is missing PinPoint would default to the current date/time. (smh)

I will make a version of APPM which will manually put that field in the FITS header.

Hi Dean: SharpCap is not an option to use for APPM for the imaging as you mentioned in your later comment. I
just happened to have some FITS images that I had acquired from SharpCap last year that I wanted to see if
PinPoint in APPM would work or not for plate solving. The way I did this was using "Image Link Test" under the
Plate Solving Settings tab in APPM. I was able to select the SharpCap FITS image and it plate solved just fine. If I
try doing the same thing with an image captured using the ASCOM camera option under the run tab and select the
ZWO camera then plate solving fails. So I'm wondering how many other people use the route I'm trying to do (use
the ASCOM camera) versus going through a different application such as SGP, Maxim, etc. All the best, Scott

Re: Any APPM/ZWO Camera Users Out There?

Hi George:  Thanks much for the feedback!  I had seen that too and then they when backwards on the ASCOM requirement to the 6.4 version.  Adds a little spice to issues like this when trying to trouble shoot!  Anyways I un-installed the latest ZWO ASCOM camera driver and reloaded it (Also tried the same with the ZWO native driver) and still had the same issue. I'm still at the ASCOM version 6.4. So I guess maybe if one upgrades to ASCOM 6.5 and ZWO updates their ASCOM driver maybe things will work.  Thanks!  Scott

Should Park 1 and Park 4 be parallel?

Forrest

I did a daytime PA routine with my 1st generation Mach1 the other day and noticed that if I use Park 1/Park 2 for the process, I got a different altitude adjustment than when I use Park 4/Park 2 for the process.  To check what was going on, I measured level in Park 1 then set park 4 and it was 3-4° different than Park 1.

Is this normal?

Re: Parking Mach2 with couter weight up

No!
I move the mount in a cw up position in the middle of the allowed area!
From there it is not possible to slew direct to a park position.
I have done that a lots of time with different sides of pear and different park positions.

You probably reached the limits and the mount self-parked. Then you must unpark before you can issue another GoTo.
When you have limits turned on and mount tracks beyond the meridian, cwt up, then it goes into the limits and parks.

That is correct. The mount automatically parks at that position when you reach the limit. The motors shut off so that it does not continue to track and cause telescope to hit the pier and cause damage to the scope. This is the feature that people have been asking or. When the telescope is in Park mode, you need to send an unpark command before it will re-energize and move.
