I've had people tell me you can't shoot targets lower than 30 degree's above the horizon. I do it all the time. This one appears between my 2 tree's for about 1.5-2 hours per night.

Wonderful.  Transparency here has turned to crap.  NO CLOUDS - but the sky is white...  and my cloudwatcher says...  DON'T BOTHER

Is it the fires making it all the way here via the jetstream which is almost always over us in Michigan?  I get Rolando's sloppy 2nds for my conditions. ;-)

Not unguided but modeled and nudge guided. By that I mean that the mount runs on a sky model which produces a custom rate that adjusts the RA and Dec tracking to what is needed to counter the atmospheric refraction, plus a minimal guiding. I use a Lodestar off-axis guider set for 10 second exposures and let the guider nudge the mount every once in a while to keep it on track.

Drift is complex when imaging close to the horizon and the tracking rate changes from minute to minute as the mount moves Westward and the object begins sinking into the southern horizon. You can get a simple model to work well for 5, 10 or even 15 minutes, but long 1 hour exposures are not going to work when imaging at or near 1 arc sec per pixel image scale.

In my second image, which was taken from several hours past the meridian, the guide star drifted 15 arc seconds in both axes due to atmospheric refraction in that 1 hour time frame.

Yes, a 5nm Astrodon. I swear by them. Never had any halos or reflections with that filter.

Maybe next session I will gather 3nm OIII data in 2 hour exposure. Main problem with long exposures is that the entire image can be ruined with one airplane trail.

Enable environmental polling was UNchecked in the Environmental Settings. Guess somewhere along the line that got unchecked since I don't have a device (yet!).

Ray,

when I had no ASCOM OC device installed, I looked for a way to manually adjust the temperature. I saw the very screen that Bob attached to his post. The temperature input/display control was not visible as in the screenshot. Clicking on the screen where the control is supposed to be located makes the control visible and accept input.

The seeing was exceptional the first night and very good the next two. transparency was so poor due to fires in Colorado that I could only see a couple of stars and Jupiter. The Moon was blood red. Thank goodness for deep red H-a filters which seem to cut thru the haze.

The first image is the entire Pelican region. The second is a crop of the active region which I will call the "Tornado Forming". It reminds me of our Midwest spring tornadoes which come dancing out of dark clouds and cause much damage when the touch down. We had a number of them this spring, fortunately they all missed our place.
