Messier 45 with Mach2 - Final Version
I posted a link to an early version of this weekend's target in the "Bad observing conditions!" thread. I think I finally have the final version.
This was taken on some friends' property out in the Anza-Borrego Desert in San Diego County. https://www.astrobin.com/1qyb67/D/ The newest generation of color cameras using the Sony BSI detectors sure do a good job IMHO. -- Dean Jacobsen Astrobin Image Gallery - https://www.astrobin.com/users/deanjacobsen/

Ray, since I didn't get a chance to send you my log zipper file before Konstantin did, do you still want it since it sounds like you have identified the problem?

Yes, it does. Almost all of the deep sky is now black.

Re: APCC Beta Install Problem Revisited
It looks like APCC is failing somewhere around the point where it is trying to create the Eltima virtual ports. The newest beta has an updated Eltima installer that may no longer support Windows 7.

I have the same problem with windows 7. After istalling and starting the program even with or without the mount connected, the program shows that it is starting and then I can not see the main window of APCC Pro. In the task I can see that the program is running but when I select the icon it show a short time the program window. But it is closing and I only see again the icon in the task line. In windows 10 all is fine! I have tested all your mentions with deleting the setting file and the control key after starting the program! Greetings Konstantin Konstantin v. Yes, that indeed could cause the problem. Ray's new beta version eliminates these error glitches even ift he mount's clutches are not fully locked.

Larry, are your clutch knobs tight? I found that I could not make them tight enough by hand when I have a bigger optical tube on the mount and need to use an allen wrench to lock them down just a smidge. E.G. if the controller tells the mount to move and it doesn't move as much as the controller says, as measured by encoders, then you'll get this kind of warning. I got these the first night I used the mach2, and since then always tighten the clutches just a little bit more than I can by finder and never see the issue again. Just a though, may or may not be your issue. Terri -- Roland Christen Astro-Physics

Re: APCC Beta Install Problem Revisited
Larry,
> Do you want all three or the first or the last? The three sets are because I installed three times.
Please use the APCC Log Zipper utility. It will get all of the logs unless you manually deleted them.
If you can start and see APCC’s main window you can get to the “Log Zipper” utility from APCC’s Tools menu. See this screenshot:
If not, then Navigate to it using the Windows Start button.
Include all APCC Logs for one day as shown in this screenshot:

Ray, there are three sets of logs since yesterday afternoon. And each have an addition file which is only 3 seconds different in time created. Do you want all three or the first or the last? The three sets are because I installed three times.

Re: Mach2 Error Messages

Hi Larry, Ray knows how to resolve the inability to resolve the inability to clear error messages. On the errors themselves you may try tightening your clutch knobs. If there is any slippage, the mount will report motor stalls. I found I could not tighten them enough by hand, and tightened just a smidge by hex wrench results in no more motor stall errors. Usually this only came when the mount is slewing either when initially slewing to a target or upon meridian flip.

Ray, perhaps I confused you by starting another thread. This is a continuation of the Mach2 Error Messages thread and since we were no longer discussing the mount error messages, I created a new thread titled appropriately. I gave some additional detail in message #83348 where I mentioned it is Win 7.

I've been staring at both images all day and I think I like the original image better because it looks more natural. The original image has minimal processing and the second image is more over processed that negatively affected some parts of the image. Generally, I don't like to over process images.
Thanks for your opinions. Peter

Re: APCC Beta Install Problem Revisited
and I get the same behavior as yesterday.Which is what, exactly? Please elaborate. You can run the APCC log zipper utility separately and zip all of the logs for the last day and attach the zip file to a reply here. If the zip file is too big, you may need to provide a link to the file via DropBox, Google drive, etc. BTW, are you running Windows 10, and are all updates applied? -Ray -----Original Message-----

APCC Beta Install Problem Revisited

Ray, I reinstalled the beta and held down the CTRL key while starting. Now the icon appears in the task bar for a few seconds and then disappears. Nothing else happens. Checking the task manager shows APCC running. This is very frustrating.

If you deleted the APCC settings file, that would remove the default of saving the window positions. Both the beta and the last release version use EXACTLY the same code to launch the error log window, so there is virtually no chance that there is something in the beta that prevents the window from being opened. The only difference is that the error log window is now being forced to the top in the beta. And, BTW, changes in the beta have been well tested, so it is safe to use. Before creating a general release build, I need to update the help in a few places and check with Dale that the API changes for NINA are working to his satisfaction. -Ray
