Re: Mount Status Not Updating in MaxIm DL Observatory Control Window

My MaximDL shows "Error" when I try connecting directly to the ASCOM driver. Could be a timing issue on my laptop.

I just completed running the previous experiment with the APCC - AP-V2 Driver - MaxIm DL configuration except this time I had the cameras connected, cooling, and imaging. I was not able to duplicate the problem that I experienced the other night where the mount status and position was not being picked up in MaxIm DL.

These kind of events don't just happen without some kind of reason. I will probably repeat this experiment a couple more times. I expect that there is something like a power surge or sudden spike in the computer processor usage that is causing MaxIm to freeze up.

Re: Sudden run-away during imaging run #APCC #Guiding

Hi John

My best guess is your dither at 23:29 resulted in PHD guiding on a hot pixel, so it would definitely mimic something like your scope "not moving"
image.png
in subsequent guiding, it no longer was on a hot pixel

Couple things to mention in your PHD settings to avoid this (and also some thoughts on your settings in general):
set your minimum HFD to at least 2 pixels
image.png

not sure why you are bin 2? you can bin 1 and still have a good image scale for guiding

i also suggest increasing your exposure to the 2-3 second range. at 1 second you are chasing seeing. Your graphs look pretty choppy so I suspect that's the case here.

Cleaned up most of the programs from the list of installed programs.
Finally narrowed down to these two files in c:\Windows\SysWOW64\VSFLEX7.OCX and VSPort.dll - deleting
these two files seems to have solved the problem and the virtual ports in the APCC are now created and
APCC does not report any errors.
VSPort.DLL is used by the Eltima ActiveX control and APCC, but VSFlex7.OCX is not.

Hello Ray,

Thank you for your reply.
I tried what you mentioned a couple of times with and without reboot and the problem persisted.

My next alternative was to reinstall windows or go back to an old restore point.

PHD doesn't start or stop tracking, so it's unlikely that was the cause, but i'm happy to look at your PHD logs

Thanks Roland.   A  power glitch might be possible as I have just switched to everything tied to a single power supply instead of having the mount on its own supply.   It's a Powerwerx 30 amp supply so I thought it should handle the load; however, di/dt might be high enough to kick a large spike.   I'll go back to the mount on its own supply in the future.   In the meantime I may be able to find a PHD expert who can decode the log for me in case I have a software issue somewhere.

Tom,

You are not alone in stumbling over that issue in selecting "Astro-Physics mount" instead of "Ascom mount" with TheSkyX.  One of many not-so-obvious quirks in astrophotography.

There are no installation logs and I never heard of anyone having the Eltima product ask for a license. I wonder if the installer has been corrupted.

Try this:

1. Uninstall APCC from the computer.
2. Delete the file c:/programdata/Astro-Physics/APCC/settings.apcc
3. Reboot the computer.
4. Download APCC 1.9.0.11 again from the link I just posted erlier.
5. Reinstall APCC.

Hello Ray,

Thank you so much for your reply.
I checked the add-remove-programs and did not find any software installed by Eltima Software.

The APCC comes up once I go past the registration, but unable to create the Virtual port -- was able to create
COM21 earlier.
I checked for upgrade and found that the latest version is 1.9.0.11 but face the same problem.

Ignoring the registration causes the following error during virtual port creation.

Are there any installation logs that I can provide?

Yes, you can torque them down. Lock them actually.

Thanks for the help, Ray and Roland.  I have the clutches tightened as tight as I can get them with my fingers, but I will try to put an allen wrench on them and really torque them down, as I think Roland has said there is no problem with over torqueing.  I do not need to manually swing the scope around, so I would prefer to have the clutches not slip at all.  I am just clumsy in the dark.  Luckily I was smart enough to put lots of bubble wrap around the counter weights, or my head would be in worse shape than it is.

I had forgotten that home and Park 3 are synonymous, and that I could use the scribed marks at that location.  Hopefully I will remember next time.  Thanks for the help.

Kalpesh,

Also, please make sure you are installing the latest released APCC Pro version (1.9.0.11). Here is the direct link:

Hello,

I have been using the APCC to control the AP1100 for a while, my laptop had some issues.
I am trying to install the APPC Pro again, but it is asking me for the registration code for Virtual Serial Port
ActiveX Control.
Where do I find the code? I do not seem to be able to find it in the original package contents (which has the
PEMPro registration code sticker).

Re: Virtual Serial Port - Registration Code

Hi Kalpesh,

There is no such code you should need to enter with APCC.

If you manually downloaded and installed any Eltima software product, you must uninstall it from your computer.

Re: Mount Status Not Updating in MaxIm DL Observatory Control Window

I just finished my next trial where I went back to the standard APCC - AP-V2 Driver - MaxIm configuration where I experienced the problem in the first place. The only difference is that I have not yet connected any cameras. With no cameras connected I have experienced no issues with the mount status or position. Note that this is with the ethernet connection.

Next I will try connecting my cameras and see what happens.

I also plan to eventually try running my cameras through a powered USB hub (i.e Icron Ranger 2304), but for now I am just plugging them directly into the USB ports on the laptop.

Without digging thru logs, no way to deduce anything. i doubt that the mount would stop on its own unless there was a power glitch or low battery.
