Thanks again, Don.  I'll follow your advice and clean everything up.  I live in Arizona so very dry here.

Re: My Keypad Freezes

Sounds like bad contacts somewhere in the cable. I would get some good quality electronic spray contact cleaner. Pull the plug off the circuit board on the HC and spray the cleaner on both plug and pins. Clean the contacts in the plug on the CP-X controller as well.
Corrosion can happen fairly quickly depending on your local environment.
Best of luck

Thanks Don.  I will certainly try what you suggest the next time it happens.  The keypad was purchased a year or 2 ago but I have only used it for less than a month.  Connections should be clean and cables look new so I will wiggle everything around to see if there is a connection problem somewhere.  One time I also got an orange screen.  Everything was orange and there were no letters or numbers.  I unplugged it and plugged it back in as Rolando suggested and that worked.  But I hope I can find the source of the problem so it doesn't keep happening.  Thanks!

I suspect Dr Suresh is right. you may have a cable problem. Check for loose or broken wires in the coil cable. It could be a dirty connection where the cable plugs onto the circuit board in the key pad. Also check you plug at the mount.

I recently received a new scope, a Tec 200FL, and started using my AP 1100 mount for the 1st time just about 2 weeks ago.  It is working well.  However, the keypad sometimes freezes.  When I push any button nothing happens.  If I shut it off and then turn it back on again it works until next time when it freezes.

Last night, it didn't freeze but there were a couple of buttons that did not work while the others did.  The menu button worked, but the "plus-minus" did not and the "RA DEC REV" button also didn't work.  Again I restarted and everything worked.

Could this be a failing battery inside the keypad?  I am not receiving a low battery message.  Or what else might it be?

Thanks, Kent

If you need to try 5.10.0.2 simply delete the existing one and reinstall the one you want.

Re: AP Grease Kit

Hi Larry
I got the kit earlier this year. One doesn't need much grease to re do a mount. I think the left over grease(s) will likely dry out before they are used up.

The image was taken using a Skynyx color camera from South Carolina. I took an AVI for no longer than 2 minutes to avoid blurring from Jupiter’s rotation. I do not know how to use the de-rotation program out there so I just limit my AVI to 2 minutes or less.

Re: AP Grease Kit

Michael Hambrick <mike.hambrick@...>

I think I read somewhere on the old forum that re-greasing is only required every one or two years. The re-greasing frequency depends on the mount operating hours and load history. Extended periods of operation with high loads (especially if unbalanced) will typically require more frequent re-greasing, but even then I don't think more often than once a year is necessary. A-P uses special low temperature grease, but there may be a temperature factor in the re-greasing frequency as well.

I can say from my personal experience that non-use is probably worse for the mounts than heavy use as far as the lubrication goes. I have an old 800 mount that sat un-used in my garage for at least 10 years. When I finally got back into the hobby again, the mount was very stiff and I had to completely disassemble it and clean all the old grease out of it. During the long period of non-use, the volatile components in the grease had almost completely weathered off, leaving a putty-like substance.

Thanks Geert.  Surprisingly I looked for it on the new website and it did not show up.  I purchased it some time ago but haven't used it yet and am trying to find how much I paid so as to share the cost with others.  I think it was around $40.

I paid $42.50 for a kit back in February. It is not listed on the web site. Instead you have to call them and order the kit over the phone
