Re: Newby setting up a Mach 1
The clutch settings have no impact on the backlash in Dec.
How much backlash do you see and how are you measuring it?

Yes, I decided to go ahead and do the upgrade and placed my order. I posted the CP3 on Astromart and it already sold. It will be nice to have both mounts on CP4.

Yeah the QSI cameras are great. I had a few of the Sony chipped ones. The 6120 and 690.

Benefits:
1) Sell CP3 if you get CP4
2) Better resale value if mount is equipped with CP4
3) I really like using Ethernet

It's a really nice camera with a compact 7 position filter wheel. My filters are Astrodon which produce no halos around bright stars and are basically perfect. Mechanically it is robust and it works

Tom,
That is the first generation keypad. It will not be able to be updated to the v5.xx firmware for Mach2 use. Sorry.

Re: Spiderwebs in the sky
$652.99 was a lot cheaper than a new camera.
Edited to add: A "new camera" would be only part of it. I'd probably need new filters, too, since my QSI uses the little 31.5 mm filters from Astrodon.

Whew, that was close! For a minute there I thought that we were going to have a CCD vs. CMOS camera debate. :-)

Are CMOS cameras better than CCD? Aren't the wells a lot shallower than CCD's?

Ouch!
I'm betting that there are electrolytic filter caps going bad. Maybe I'll try replacing them all.
