I live on the coast half way between LA and the Bay area. The sky is fairly dark particularly out toward the ocean. We are blessed with a perpetual water shortage that has stopped all new development.

I feel fortunate that I am able to pack all of my gear out to a Bortle 3 site that is only a 2 hour [70 mile] drive from my home. A trip out to a Bortle 2 site takes a little longer - about 4 hours.

Assuming you want to use Stellarium to point your telescope, just use Stellarium's ASCOM driver for telescope connection.

Thanks Ray and Alex. So I tried updating everything but still no luck. Perhaps the next thing I could try would be to reinstall a later Windows version. Does this seem a reasonable

Rory,
Glad your problem has been solved. I'll stick with the virtual ports for now since they're working, but great to have an alternative.

Hi Dan - I used to use the ASCOM mount driver when I was running SharpCap and PhD2 guiding, but now with the ASIAIR PRO, I just select the AstroPhysics GTO CP3/4 option from the Mount Settings menu.

"Ditch & switch" is probably the best solution. However, you might want to go to Device Manager in Windows (with APCC closed) and see if your virtual ports were properly terminated the last time APCC

Hi Kevin,
thanks for the tip! It solved the first problem (polar align works perfectly now), but I still have problems to calibrate autoguiding. When reversing directions the motion is far too large.
