Thanks Ray and all. I will look into the APIPA thing when I get a chance. It seems that my laptop is connecting OK with a direct Ethernet connection, going directly from it to the CP4.

For my observatory setups I use the USB connection for direct mount control. No need for Ethernet for that basic function. The only reason I have Ethernet connections to the mounts thru-out the

How old is the mount / CP4? If you got it used, can you reach out to the previous owner and see if they experience any issues like you? Glad to hear it is connecting now.

Well for whatever reason, after trying for two days, not changing anything, it now sees the CP4 and connects to the mount in APCC Pro.

Sometimes you have to hit the refresh button a few times to get it to locate it.
If that is still not working, it is possible the cable is faulty, or the network interface is older and wont support a

Connecting directly to a device with an Ethernet cable usually requires that you set up your laptop to use APIPA (Automatic Private IP addressing 169.254.0.0-169.254.255.255).

In APCC you can have the software search the machine to locate the correct interface and IP address. Have you used that utility? The + sign magnifier glass is what I am talking about:
