Re: Mach2 Unguided testing continues
Does this DEC Arc feature just happen naturally in the process of generating a model?

20 seconds isn't really long enough to capture drift unless the seeing is perfect. It takes at least 3 minutes to get a good handle of the drift at any one spot in the sky.

Re: Mach2 Unguided testing continues
Okay, that's what I understood from what Craig has said previously.
But I think most imagers want longer exposures than 20 seconds. How would this work if a user wants to do 10 minute

So, in a first time setup how is the tracking rate set for the very first image?

Re: Unguided with pointing model
Hi Mojo
We're not so far apart on our setups:
i have an OAG with Lodestar that is 752 x 582 8.4u @840mm focal length
Your camera has the TC-237 tracking CCD (657 x 495 pixels at 7.4u) @ 1620mm focal

Yes, it works at multiple new targets in one night in different parts of the sky. The methodology incorporates a plate solve of each image and subsequent correction using data from the previous image.

Does that work if you are going to do multiple new targets in one night in different parts of the sky?
I think that type of application may be useful for certain types of telescopes that are hard to

SGP does not have internal plate solving routine. There are 4 options for plate solving. All have a learning curve.
Astrometry.net (remote and local) (free)
ASTAP (free)
PinPoint ($150US)(APPM can

Mo,
You might be surprised to learn you can use a small guide scope and guider array where it becomes easy to find a guide star. Just say'n.

Re: Unguided with pointing model
Thanks for chiming in Brian! I'm sure much of my difficulty comes from using the built-in off-axis guide camera on my ST-4000XCM, so I don't have the privilege of a wider-field guide scope.

A pointing model is something completely different from a drift model. A simple pointing model can get you to various objects fairly accurately and takes just a few minutes per point. You can do 3 on
