Re: Normal backlash in dec
I am interested in knowing this as well. Even with the worms meshed and no looseness in the spur gear, what is the DEC backlash one should expect. I see chopped traingular trace with PEMpro backlash

Amazing images!!! While most of us stare skyward at objects billions of miles away, Walter has captured something just as beautiful right here on the "little blue marble". Great job and please pass

Very nice Adam. The star colors look great and very round.
You should not have any problems with OAG. My last imaging was 30 minute
subs with OAG and didn't throw out one single sub thanks to my

M1 - First image with the Mach 1...
I had my first imaging outing with my new Mach 1 as well as the 8" Edge. Everything went smoothly with the exception of some drift that I believe is due to my piggyback setup. Until I get an OAG,

I know this is off-topic, but I have to share this with all of you. When Walter is not building mounts here at AP, he takes photos of very tiny life forms and has developed some truly outstanding

Re: Normal backlash in dec
Hi Marc,
in case, check also the preload bearings of the worm shaft.
Unless I am wrong, 16 arcs gives about a 1s tracking delay, which seems acceptable and not really a problem while autoguiding.

Re: Why AP mount don't have a USB port?
I hope it's clear that Adam said that "the tables have turned", not I!
I greatly prefer servo motors over hot, inefficient steppers and also think
that the choice of RS-232 is a sound one, for now

Re: Status of APCC
Obviously I agree - in fact the APCC has been described here several times as a software/hardware solution.
