Re: Need help with issue in RA guiding and Synchronous Pulseguide
Hi Rolando,
This is great info!!
I have wondered in the past that if the PEC would not be fully turned off, since there are multiple places to change it (PemPRO, driver, Keypad). The keypad was set

Normal spur gears are more problematic that worms. In a worm set, the

It is quite possible that one of your various programs turned PEM on even
though you had it off in PEMPro. It could be the keypad sending the command
to turn it on.

Re: Need help with issue in RA guiding and Synchronous Pulseguide
Hi Peter,
I cannot see the worm/gear at all on the AP1200. Nothing of it is visible from the outside. It does not seem dust/dirt can get in there much. I am sure AP has thought the Mach1 design

Re: Need help with issue in RA guiding and Synchronous Pulseguide
Hi Floyd,
Did you regrease all gears including worm and wheel or just the gears
inside the box? Good quality grease should last a very long time. I have
read from others that they never touch or open

Hi Peter,
Did you happen to see my earlier thread on the gearboxes, where I found that the grease had completely dried out and turned hard? I assume mine was an isolated case and possibly even a case

Hi,
I would bet that there was something in the grease. I know that the gearboxes are sealed, but that does not completely dismiss the possibility for contamination. It could even have been a small

I am not sure if you can see the worm wheel on yours but I can easily
see it on my Mach1 which concerns me a little bit. I can see how easily
dirt can get on the worm wheel. See photo

Hi Parijat,
Oh I see. I don't see how dirt can get there, these gears are well
protected by the box. Very strange that cleaning and regreasing these
gears solved your issue. I hope this issue won't

Hi Peter,
Not the worm or wheel (I did not remove the gearbox). Just the gears in the RA gearbox. There are 3 gears, a delrin one and two aluminum including the spur gear on the worm shaft.

Glad to hear the good news.
Which three gears are you referring? Worm, big worm wheel and spur gear?

I took the 3 gears out from the RA gearbox, cleaned thoroughly and placed them back. Did not see any noticeable dirt in there but cleaned all of them re-greased anyway.

Re: Larger "diameter" Counterweights for AP-1600 ?
Thanks Howard, You are correct,
I did get my "Latitude problem" reference, reversed. The weights hitting the pier, would be more likely for a concern with mounts used at LOWER latitudes,
