I agree with you if AP starts charging additional money for a modeling
software. If it come as part of future models, it's fine and good for

Field rotation! Mount may be forgiving of polar misalignment, long exposure
astrophotography is not. Although some software can do alignment of rotated
images for stacking. If one has such software

Almost the same thing happened some time ago to my friend who at that time
had his Losmandy G11 with Celestron C9.5 next to my house. A power cable to
his SBIG camera was destroying in the morning

The modeling would have no effect on tracking or guiding, only on the GOTO.
So turning it on or off would make no difference while imaging.

off. When off, the mount would act exactly as it does now.

As you point out modeling is a software patch to fix the short
comings of mediocre equipment. Adding it to my AP900 would be sorta
like putting patches on your tires when there's no leak.
