Try to see if you can find an old home thermostat controller. Inside you
will find a nice miniature mercury switch.

Re: Anyone designed a limit switch or similar to prvent pier collision
Hi Konstantin,
Actually, "mercury switches" are almost impossible to find, at least in
Canada, because of the ban on mercury due to it's toxicity. Perhaps some "ball
bearing" based level sensor

Paul,
I'm far from knowledgable about electrical circuits. I had one of our
airplane mechanics explain the procedure to me, set up the amp meter
and draw me a diagram. I can fax you that diagram,

Hello,
I think it is not so important where the scope is pointed in the sky.
The failure is only happening if the scope is going to point lower
than the horizon. So what you need is a switch

Re: Balancing the declination axis
Gavin,
An after thought.
Rather than drilling the two rearward holes for the back ring, right away,
can you get one or two Vice Grips or C-Clamps to fix the rear OTA ring to the
plate

Actually you're right - I misread what you said. Sorry about that
and thanks for persisting.
What I will do is drill some more holes for the back ring as close
to the plate's attachments holes

Paul,
I just used the amp meter technique to balance my Mach1 GTO with 38
