PE has increased

Geoff Smith

Last night I checked the periodic error on my AP900. It had increased to beyond spec. Pempro with 9 worm cycles gave a PE of 8.7 arc secs peak to peak.
The previous time I checked PE several years ago it registered 6.1 arc secs peak to peak.
Any suggestions as to what could have caused this?

Re: Anyone using 13035FF Field Flattener with TEC140FL?

According to Preciseparts.com, the minimum spacer distance for 13035FF is 21.3mm. In my case was to connect FF to QHY filter wheel using M54 threads.

I think I made a mistake. My QuadTCC threaded flange is about 10mm so I assume 13035FF is probably the same length.

Yves,
I was contacted by someone at AP to correct an incompatibility issue in the firmware. I don't know if this was related to newer 1100GTOs (mine was received around 04/2021)
If may be worth asking AP as I dont see this version on the website but you also may not be impacted. They can likely confirm.

Greg,

Notice that A-P back focus specification includes about 18mm to 20mm threaded flange of the flattener. For example, if the back focus is 100mm, then the effective optical back focus (where you include OAG, filter wheel, etc.) is 80mm to 82mm which is not much longer than TEC FF for TEC 160FL (78mm).

Re: Insurance for AP Mounts

A replacement cost insurance policy for your astronomical equipment makes sense, and most insurance companies will gladly let you inflate the value of the articles being insured because it lets them charge higher premiums. The problem is that if something were to happen to your Astro-Physics equipment and you had to file a claim, the chances of actually being able to replace any of the equipment would be pretty slim. Although the older, larger A-P scopes (e.g., 180 EDT) are very valuable, they can never be replaced. Equipment that is still in production (mounts and the smaller scopes) can still be had, but the waitlist for these items is so long that it is unrealistic to think that they could be replaced either.

The moral: Take good care of your A-P gear.

Peter,

Thanks for asking this question.  I was going to ask the same thing.   The TEC field flattener seems to have insufficient back focus for me to insert an off axis guider with the TEC160.  It would be awesome to be able to use the AP field flattener that I have for the 130 EDFGT (outfitted with the GTX focuser) with the TEC 160 and take advantage of the already sorted image train that I use on the 130 with the 13035FF.

Roland,

This calculation for use of the 13035 FF with the TEC 160  would be most appreciated, if it’s possible to use it with the TEC 160.   I’ve been extremely pleased with the performance of the 13035FF with the 130!

Happy New Year to All!!

Cheers,

Greg

I did some adjusting of the LED Cover on the Dec.  Sliding it around would not make it turn green.  However, I noticed that when I pulled up on it, it would turn green.  So I took some thin brass shim stock and put it between the cover and the mount.  This let me tighten the cover screws and the LED stayed green at all DEC angles.

I have gotten insurance for all my astronomy equipment with a specialized policy here: (Why does this not allow hot links?)

Todd,

At the bottom of the "Advanced WiFi Settings" tab, click the radio button "Create the Access Point..." to choose a different default behavior.  This can always be changed to "Retry..." later, but for now, we're just trying to rescue your connection from what appears to be a very confused WiFi module.  Cycle power, then wait a couple minutes to see if the internal access point appears.  If not, then are more brute force means to rescue the connection.  If so, then see if the "Initializing Wi-Fi" is gone and your network appears in the list.

I also just tried moving the CP4 within 12 feet of the WiFi unit and same issue. So, I dont think it has anything to do with distance.
All other WiFi devices on our network dont have any issues with the WiFi unit.

Re: GTOCP4 WiFi

I also removed the CP4 cover and the WiFi wire is connected at both ends and it was not pinched or bent in any odd way. There does not appear to be an issue there.

Re: GTOCP4 WiFi

Mike, Happy New Year and thank you for the additional tips.
Advanced Wifi show a valid MAC address and version number (A4.0.4)
Under, "In Station Mode, if auto-connection to an existing local WiFi network is not performed, select one of the following:"
Nothing is checked or toggled, which should be fine as I would just prefer auto-connect.
I also show software version as: VCP4-P02-10 on the main page.

On the main menu under "GTOCPx not Available on WiFi Network
If I click "Change Network Connection" I am directed to this page below. There does not seem to be a place to save after you Enable/Disable WiFi which seems odd.

It also appears to be stuck at "Initializing WiFi" unless it is supposed to read that way?
Thanks again
Todd

Hi Todd,

Happy New Year!

Using the embedded web pages, Click on the "Advanced WiFi Settings" tab.  Scroll down near the bottom and take a look at the "WiFi MAC Address" and "WiFi Firmware Version" indications.  If there are no valid indications (MAC is 00:00:00:00:00:00 and firmware version is blank), the Wi-Fi module is "totally dead".  If there are valid indications, the Wi-Fi module is "really confused" about something.  Next steps are determined by what you see on this page.

If you recently had to open the lid, make sure the Wi-Fi antenna is properly "snapped" into its UFl connector.  The last setting on the advanced settings tab instructs the unit what to do if it cannot find the network it is supposed to join.  If the selected action is to retry forever, but the antenna is not connected properly, your symptoms would be explained.

Regards,
Mike Hanson

If you think 130355FF would work with TEC 160FL, I would appreciate if you could calculate the back focus for this setup as well. Also would it fill a full frame camera like ASI6200MM or QHY600M?

Thank you and Happy New Year!!!!

Very cool, can you send me a picture of the shim? I need to move mine out a tad to make it blue.

GTOCP4 WiFi

I cant seem to get WiFi enabled on my CP4. I connect via ethernet and web browser. I can see and change the ethernet IP from 169.254.x.x to an IP on my local network, so that part works. However, the WiFi section shows WiFi Initializing and below that I can enter the SSID and password of my network but it never does anything. I've waited for the "WiFi initializing" to complete but it never seems to. I've also powered down and started back up again but its the same issue.
I'm pretty sure it worked when I first got the mount as I went through this not long after receiving it. The only thing that has changed, that I can think of, is Astro-Physics did perform an upgrade on my CP4 but I dont know if that would be related. I remember being careful when removing the cover and replacing it during the upgrade but I guess its possible something could have happen at that point too. I need to remove the cover and check it I suppose.

Does anyone have any other thoughts of something I may be missing? I am trying to connect to a Google Nest WiFi unit but it doesnt appear I'm getting that far. WiFi is enabled on the CP4 and when checking WiFi networking on my phone or laptop, I do not see the CP4 device name in the list of WiFi networks.
