Re: Fast Meridian Limits and NINA Q?

Hi Mike

>>>What’s the best setting for NINA: Stop Tracking, Park Mount, Flip Scope, just warn.  And what settings in NINA if any?

That's kind of up to you on what you want to have happen. Horizon limits for me are a hard stop safety, so i choose Stop Tracking for that. I do not have meridian limits enabled, i manage that more carefully through the imaging app

>>>Also, I noticed that the GTOCP4 and associated cables limit earlier some , does anyone mount it in another position than the left side?

i don't really understand what you're asking here? maybe typo

Re: Eagle 8” Tripod for AP1100?

The Eagle is a beast of a tripod. I would definitely buy an 8" version.

Hi folks:

Everytime I see the Eagle tripod, I think: “I wish the folks at AP made a 8” version for the 1100”. I know I would pick one up. Any thoughts?

i love the look and design of the Eagle :)

I'm not sure where the "DST" settings are but I'll look for them when I'm done imaging, esp. the keypad.

Thanks Lee, thanks Jeff, thanks everyone. A lot of great options here to aid in my decision.

Thanks , that might explain things I had problems earlier. I didn’t know that ASCOM had that feature

Re: Mach 2 Parking Funnies

Check for DST in the keypad, ASCOM driver and APCC. Should be zero in all apps.

I think you're right!  APCC shows LST as 23:32, but it's really 00:32.
My lat/long/timezone are all correct in APCC.  Computer time is correct.  I'm not sure where the problem is.  This may have cropped up after we went off DST, but the timezone properly shows -5 for EST (Louisa, VA).

OK, for some reason APCC was showing -5 TZ but the ASCOM driver was showing -4.  Hitting "Resync Mount to PC time in the ASCOM driver Configuration Settings seems to have fixed it.  I'm not sure why it didn't correctly pick this up on its own.

Thanks!

Sounds like maybe location or time is incorrect or inconsistent between the keypad, ASCOM driver and/or APCC.

I saw this once before but that was several months ago.  I send the scope to Park2 and looking at the scope and index marks it's clearly in the correct position but the APCC readout says something like Az=87, El=-11.  So I send the mount to the home position and then back to Park2 and APCC properly indicates Az=90, El=0 (the scope is exactly where it was the first time but not the readout is correct).  I properly shut everything down.  This evening when I start it back up it's back to saying Az=87, El=-11 even though it's clearly at 90/0. ...so back to the home position and then back to Park2 and once again it's correct.  Strange.

YCSD mini PCs have versions with 6 or 8 USB ports. I haven't used one but I'm tempted.

Subject: [ap-gto] 1600GTO PA scope question

I was contacted by a local school asking for help in getting their 1600GTO balanced and PA'd. It's being put back into commission for visual use by faculty after sitting unused for quite a long time, and it was recently sent back to A-P to get restored and serviced before being installed back into the rehabbed dome they have. More kids using some quality gear in the furtherance of STEM education. Great!

My contact at the school isn't aware of any PA scope in their possession, so I figure that I'll bring my own RAPAS with me. This thought made me pause, though. Were all 1600s shipped equipped to use the RAPAS, or is there a chance that this presumably older 1600 could be fitted for the PASILL? I didn't spot any PASILL -> RAPAS upgrade parts on the 1600's upgrades page on the A-P store, but an older version of the manual mentions both the RAPAS and PASILL. If worse comes to worse and the RAPAS can't be used, I'll eyeball it and then hone it in using the meridian drift method.

Re: 1600GTO PA scope question

Yeah, it's some pretty nice gear. Apparently it had some sort of imaging setup back when it was originally installed, but everything imaging-related got destroyed by rain or is otherwise unusable, so the faculty member who is doing all the effort to put this resource back into use would like to learn how to do it using what they have. If their 1600 can accept it, I'll let them borrow my RAPAS for a while until they either get their own or get an imaging setup that they can use software tools to do any ongoing PA maintenance with.

Just another option that comes to mind: drop a small camera (guide camera like asi290, asi174, or any camera with a 1.25" or 2" nosepiece) into the diagonal and do a SharpCap-like routine for PA using a laptop.

I have a very early AP1600 and my RAPAS works great with it.  I think that you will be fine.

In the worst case scenario. if RAPAS doesn't fit (it will), 30 minutes with PEMPro would get it dialed right in.

Todd,

I traditionally use an inexpensive Dell laptop and a USB hub to acquire data for my pics.  However, it is usually cold in my dome at 8500 ft. of elevation, and 100 ft. away I have a heated room in my barn/garage.  I set up wifi link with antennas on both ends, and ended up purchasing another similar laptop, installed Windows 10 Pro on the laptop in the dome, and used Remote Desktop to connect the two. That way, in warm weather I can stay in the dome when I want and have full control of everything, and move to the heated room when desired, and still control everything (except the dome that is not automated)  The wifi link is good for 15 miles or so, and it works flawlessly over the 100 ft. or so, even though the heated room is in a metal building.  Of course, I use wiring from the external antenna into the computer in the heated room.
