Re: [ap-ug] The Beast is heading to Hawaii..
Funny enough, every Thanksgiving and Christmas here in Hawaii, before COVID, my wife and I would host a "Thanksgiving in the Land of Misfit Toys" for all of the elderly, widowed, single or just lonely astro-nuts here on the island. Just being an astro-nut was enough to qualify. I believe Marj & Roland attended at least once. It will be nice to re-commence with social gatherings at some point. When that finally happens and if any of you happen to be on the Big Island during either of those two holidays, let me know and I'll assign you something to bring to the festivities! At one point I thought it would be fun to come up with an acronym for the gatherings but upon reflection, TITLOMT didn't create the vibe I was looking for.

I’m so thinking mini-dragonfly project. Can’t that mount handle 3 or 4 Riccardi-Honders scopes? My dream project!

Hi Roland,
Thank you for the explanation. When you told me the springy feeling is not a problem in your email, I believed so but didn't know why. Now I understand the reasons behind it. My other mount (non-AP) indeed had large Dec backlash and also the static friction that you described. These bothered me a lot. These problems do not exist on Mach2 and I am very happy with it. Even if the price for this is slightly less rigidness against strong wind, I can happy accept this tradeoff (no matter one views it a tradeoff or not). Cheers, Wei-Hao

I configure ALL my mounts to use UT.
My main problems with bad gotos with any of my AP mounts has been wrong time, wrong date.

Hi Alex,
It remained shifted for the half dozen or sub subs until the meridian flip. After the flip and platesolve, theI think this supports the slipped clutch theory. The offset stayed until the plate solve after the pier flip accounted for the offset position. -Ray -----Original Message-----

Can’t wait to see the images. What do you plan on using for an imaging train?

We have excellent transparency at our observatory and the sky is really dark. The seeing (star scintillation) is not always good, but the Honders is a medium focal length scope (1160mm) so it is ideal for semi-wide field objects. I intend to go extremely deep with it and will be using the fast optics to gather detail in very faint structures.

Should be the proper setting for the scope!
Looking forward to Pacific based Honders images.

Joe,
Deleting the settings file did the trick! The mount seems to be connecting and pointing fine now.I'm glad that worked! :-) -Ray -----Original Message-----

It remained shifted for the half dozen or sub subs until the meridian flip. After the flip and platesolve, the correct centering happened.

"Reinstalling APCC is not likely going to help unless APCC had become corrupted through some disk error on your computer. More likely is that the settings file has become corrupted.
So, try deleting: C:\ProgramData\Astro-Physics\APCC\settings.apcc You'll need to reconfigure the connection." I'll give it try this afternoon. "Could be a cable or connector problem too. Initially I thought these might be possibilities too but during troubleshooting have rotated connections/cables/ports and it's the same regardless of the configuration. Joe

What if you sell it and the next person sends it here because of scratches and wants it fixed under warranty?

Oh I am sure it is. It just made me think of the island of misfit toys from the Rudolph Christmas cartoon when you said it was made from rejected parts.
