Re: New mount registration and license key (PEM Pro and APCC Pro) questions

Karen Christen

Hi Scott,

When you purchase through a dealer, we do not register you as our customer (even if we shipped directly to you) until you contact us.  You can mail in the registration card, or just give us a call on Monday and give Paige or Daleen your info.  They’ll email an APCC license key to you.

I’ll let George or Howard weigh in on PemPro, but I can tell you the program – and a PEC specific to your mount – is already loaded in the CP4 control box.

Enjoy your new mount!

Karen

Subject: [ap-gto] New mount registration and license key (PEM Pro and APCC Pro) questions

I received my 1100GTO on Friday.  I purchased through a vendor, so it's not clear to me if AP has my contact info, or if I need to mail in the mount registration card?  They clearly have my name and address as the mount was shipped direct from AP to me, but they may not have my email or phone number.

I recall reading on CN that the APPC license key is delivered via email, how do I go about requesting that?

This morning I attempted to install PEM Pro using the license key listed on the 1100GTO manual front cover.  On startup PEM Pro tells me my 'trial has expired', note I never had a trial period.  When I then enter the key and hit OK the program simply exists.  Uninstalling and re-installing PEM Pro made no difference, not sure what I am doing wrong.

Thanks,
Scott

While imaging once in a while  I get a "runtime error"
which shuts the program down  and also
get a " lost communication with mount" error.
I realize it's probably a Windows 10 thing.
Anybody else get these?

Bruce,

Attached are 2 images showing my version of solid Celestron mirror locks.

First, I focus the mirror on a star using the Celestron focuser. Then I insert my mirror locks and snug them.

That locks the mirror and eliminates all movement. Then I center the travel of my Moonlite focuser

for an eyepiece or imager. Whenever necessary I can loosen the mirror locks if the Moonlite focuser’s

travel is used up (very rare).

I have two of those power supplies in my observatory and they have worked without any problems down to -10F.

Unfortunately, that’s not a viable replacement for the Mach2 power supply because it is limited to 16V maximum output voltage, which will not allow 1800x slew speed on the Mach2.

Re: Power Supply died due to heat (daytime sun) I believe. #Mach2GTO

I see.

One question I have is “switching vs linear”.
TBH, I have always avoided switching due to RF noise.  While it might not be an issue with imaging, etc, it is another variable to avoid… and not be a noisy-RF neighbor.
I’m currently repurposing an Astron linear supply for the camera + robofocus (and dew heater when needed.).  Prior to the Mach2 everything had its own supply , but with the thru-mount power I need to consolidate.

The Astron is temporary (it is 30amps which is overkill and super heavy for remote work).
So I’m looking for a 10amp-ish 12v to power everything on the OTA.   This is for when 110v is available; I also need to work out the battery situation for remote work were there’s no 110v.

As for getting a spare 24v supply:  Not a bad idea.   There’s probably some small failure rate on such hardware, likely non-zero.
Also.. I might accidentally break it somehow myself (eg a drop).  For the AP 1200 I ordered spare RA/Dec cable assembly as I broke (and repaired) one in the “field”.
Having some spares (in the field or otherwise) is a good thing.

Doubt it.  First you have to figure out the pinouts of the SkySync, then does the data protocol even match?

If I were you, I’d just buy a StarGPS.  When you order it you order it with the AP cable adapter for AP mounts – which also comes with the specific AP instructions.

It’s also much much smaller and easier and more practical to attach to things and get a good view of the sky.  And with the proper adapter cable (which you get when you buy the device), it most definitely works with AP mounts.
