UV-IR Filters in Front of R, G and B Filters

I recall reading somewhere (maybe Ron Wodaski's book  "The New CCD Astronomy") that some imagers have a common UV-IR filter in their imaging train so that even when they are imaging through the Red, Green, or Blue filters, they are also filtering with the UV-IR to block out light pollution. Is there anyone doing this ?

The gravity field at the ISS (250 miles up) is still about 89% of
 what it is here on the surface of Earth. 
The ISS moving at 5 miles per second (18,000 mph) wants to move in a
 straight line tangent to it's orbit and
 away from the center of the Earth.
Gravity pushes the ISS towards the center
 of the Earth an equal amount resulting
in a continuous free-fall orbit around the Earth.
If the ISS slows down it will return to Earth and burn up in
 the atmosphere. (5000 degrees)
If the ISS speeds up, it will move to a higher orbit and
 at about 7 miles per second (25,000 mph) will reach
 escape velocity and no longer in orbit around the Earth.

Welcome to the group Brent. 

I will definitely be following your progress on your satellite tracking interface.

The software bundle that comes with the Mach2 contains a program called Astro-Physics Horizons.  If you haven't seen it yet, here is a link to Ray's help files for APCC and the Horizons program is at the bottom of the table of contents.

I haven't yet actually attempted any tracking with the AP Horizons program yet.  I have been just doing manual tracking of the handful of FM AMSATS that my FM UHF/VHF radios allow me to contact.  I need to upgrade my radios to be SSB capable on the UHF and VHF bands that the AMSATS with linear transponders operate.  However, based on my manual tracking, I am convinced that the Mach2 is plenty fast to track the satellites that I am interested in.

Anyway, I hope to be able to at least try out the AP Horizons program on a favorable ISS pass and video the pass this next new moon cycle when I am set up out at our club's dark sky site.

Yes, I guess the tricky part would be at the point that the object passes the meridian and dealing with a mount flip.  However, passes for my objects are frequently on one side of the meridian for most of the pass.  So I guess I will find out how that detail is handled in the AP Horizons program.  :-)

I just joined the group tonight and came across this thread.  I am the original author of the satellite tracking program and the "resurrected" software that Robert spoke of.  I recently joined the wait list to purchase the new Mach2 and intend to develop a specific interface for it for satellite tracking.  1000x sidereal is fast enough for the majority of passes, so no problem there.  The Mach2's ability to slew well past the meridian is a huge advantage as the satellite's closest range is usually near the meridian and it is frustrating when tracking ISS at its closest point and the mount does a flip. Very few mounts support variable rate tracking through ASCOM so at this point I am only doing "leap frog" style of tracking with ASCOM. (Celestron and some Meade mounts are able to continuous tracking through a "legacy" interface using their command language but not their ASCOM drivers). I look forward to when I get my new AP mount as without a doubt it will be a great mount for satellite tracking.

Ok, then what is your question?
Did the screen shot of the Driver Setup help?
The ASCOM Driver can initialize the mount all by itself in the simplest possible setup. Is this not clear?

Without APCC running, you could rename or delete the settings file located here:

C:\ProgramData\Astro-Physics\APCC\Settings.apcc

But, before you do that, you should try homing the mount. On the AE tab in APCC Pro, you can click "Find Home", which will slew the mount to the home position (Park 3 position) and sync the mount to that position.

Also, please make sure to install the latest version of APCC, which you can download from here:

For now I have a STL-11000M with the 8 position filter wheel that I use on my 12.5” RC. Is this camera too heavy to be mounted on the Stowaway and if not any additional precautions to steady it? I need to find a good match camera still but would like to use what I have for now while waiting….

For those who want to try setting a limit, here are the commands:

:LR0#  turns off limits
:LR2#  turns on limits at 5 degrees past meridian, bounces back 6 degrees and parks the mount (motors de-energized).

You will need to have software version P02-06 or later software loaded in the CP4. You can do this using the Command Interface via Ethernet connection or WiFi. The above commands can be sent to the mount via the Interface Terminal. We plan to publish other new commands as they become available and have been fully debugged.

This is fantastic news, thank you!!!! This will serve as an excellent safety mechanism, I'm sure it will save many from pier crashes. 

The caveats all sound reasonable for those of us without encoders, the mount can't possibly know if the real position is correct or not, that is entirely our responsibility. I'd imagine with a bad recal users will notice their slews are way off long before the safety limit comes into play. 

A variable window for the limit would certainly add some flexibility for those who might have a wider diameter pier or filter wheels/imaging equipment that could collide before the 5 degree window is reached. 

Very much looking forward to this feature, I appreciate the response.
