Re: strange behavior of Mach2 in Skyx #Mach2GTO: slewing instead of tracking

Ray Gralak

Hi Andrea,

-if I use the jog buttons in skyx, the mount get stuck in a slewing mode, with a wrong tracking speed (not
sidereal). There is nothing at this point I can do to put the mount back in tracking mode: The only possibility is to
disconnect the mount from skyx.
It's probably not a bug in the Mach 2. Some of the commands have changed in the new firmware that the Mach 2 uses. It might take a bit of time before SkyX is updated so for jogging you should consider using APCC's move buttons. You can connect both SkyX and APCC to the mount at the same time.

Subject: [ap-gto] strange behavior of Mach2 in Skyx #Mach2GTO: slewing instead of tracking

Hi,
I am using my Mach 2 with APCC pro and skyx.
Everything seems to work, except for one strange behavior:

-if I use the jog buttons in skyx, the mount get stuck in a slewing mode, with a wrong tracking speed (not
sidereal). There is nothing at this point I can do to put the mount back in tracking mode: The only possibility is to
disconnect the mount from skyx.

Except for this the mount point, sync, track, and autoguide using pulse guide just fine.

Can this be a bug related to the young mach2?

Thank you very much,
Andrea

You can set the meridian delay on the Meridian tab. You can tell that a meridian delay is in effect by the yellow line on the sky view graph as shown in the screen shot I’ve included. That said, you should take some time to learn how to fully setup meridian tracking limits for your Mach2.

Comet NEOWISE (C/2020 F3)

Chanan Greenberg

Hi All,

I just got an AP900 GTOCP2 from a friend. I used this mount 10 years ago and have forgotten a few of the basics. I was looking to track Comet Neowise and completely forgot how to figure out what Custom RA and Dec information to enter into the AP V2 ASCOM Driver window. I did visit the JPL Horizons website and downloaded the data but was not sure which data to use.

Hope someone will help me figure it out. I did once, for the life of me cannot remember what I did.

Clear skies,
Chanan

understanding how to set meridian limits for AP MAch 2 #APCC #Mach2GTO

Andrea Lucchetti

Hi,
I have a brand new Mach2 +APCC and I am struggling with meridian limits.

I am really confused about the options in AE tab (RA limits), and the Meridian TAB.
.they all need to be configured?
-how the two tab settings interact?
-"operation" & "Meridian delay" within the Meridian TAB: are the two boxes alternatives?

I don't want to set meridian limits for each declination, I have a nomad set up and just need to program a fixed delay of let say 1 hour.

Thank you very much,
Andrea

Kevin,

If the deal is too good to be true, it probably is.  Consider taking a pass.  Paying a little more for a known quantity always pays off in a long run.  If you do go for it, good suggestion on not paying cash.  If he doesn’t want to do PayPal, another red flag.

Kevin,

Or it might be a case that the 2nd generation is selling off Dad’s old astronomy gear.  And not everybody keeps old receipts or records.

Just trying to think on the positive side.

Well ... privacy rules would probably preclude Marj and the gang giving you a lot of details about the seller but hopefully they can confirm that the mount is theirs (since they claim to be the original owner).

I bought an AP130EDT (f/8.35 version) that I was to be the 3rd owner of. The seller asserted it was originally bought by someone local quite well known and while AP was in no position to speak to that due to privacy, they were SUPER helpful in confirming that the scope was what it was asserted to be and I made the deal and was very happy.

Don't give up yet!

Re: Ser No 900349

There are people who make investments in expensive gear because they can afford it. Those same people don't always figure out their expensive investments and sometimes that gear goes into storage and is forgotten about.

The seller's faded memory could just simply be that.

A call to AP can verify if the seller is the original owner and possibly a few more details on the mount.

Depending on how far away it is, you could consider going to look at it in person. Or if you have a friend nearer to the mount, maybe have them do it.

Never take cash with you.  If all looks well, you can pay via Square, PayPal, Zelle, etc. Or go off and get a bank check from a local branch of your bank, if possible.

I'm sure a call into AP will answer your question exactly but if it you're needing the info now, I have #501 and it was made ~ 2000 and was a CP2.

Does AP still have/sell touch up paint for the cream textured finish on their mounts?

Years back IIRC, the touch up paint was a two part paint with a catalyst/hardener.

Thanks, Stephen
