Would a 13.8v 23a switching power supply be suitable for my AP1100/CP4? I operate only portable on a 100 a/h LIFePo battery but would like to have an AC backup power supply.

If you have reverse polarity the light won't come on.

Out of habit, I always use the USB to Serial cable into the RS232 port on the CP4, but I wanted to test the Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections and was having difficulties. I called George at Astro Physics (probably best to email him these days) and he was able to walk me through the process of setting it up properly in APCC and reaching a successful test.
One of the key features in his troubleshooting help was a newer JAVA polling applet called ‘FindMounts_VFM-XX-XX’ ( The newer script had features that were much more helpful than the previous one which I had been trying to use.
I would connect with George and he can give you some straightforward guidance on how to set it up with APCC. I am not a network wizard either and George still managed to walk me through it and get me connected.

The IP address range 169.254 is reserved by the Internet Task Force for link-local devices that have not been renamed, either by DHCP or another protocol. It isn't a defective IP address.
You might think that however because if your computer has a 169.254 ip address it will not see past the router and connect to the internet. In that situation, it is problematic. In this one however, the CP4 does not need access to the internet. It should be
kept as link local.
Sorry for the confusion, everyone. Remy, I am looking at the information you have sent and will be working with you shortly to try and figure out what is wrong.

Start by looking for the addresses used by the other network components. Typically a local network will use 192.168.xxx.xxx and the mask will determine the address ranges. But....my advice is to physically bring someone in who understands network addressing, which is complex.

Out of habit, I always use the USB to Serial cable into the RS232 port on the CP4, but I wanted to test the Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections and was having difficulties. I called George at Astro Physics (probably best to email him these days) and he was able to walk me through the process of setting it up properly in APCC and reaching a successful test.
One of the key features in his troubleshooting help was a newer JAVA polling applet called ‘FindMounts_VFM-XX-XX’ ( The newer script had features that were much more helpful than the previous one which I had been trying to use.
I would connect with George and he can give you some straightforward guidance on how to set it up with APCC. I am not a network wizard either and George still managed to walk me through it and get me connected.

FYI, this address (169.254.1.140) has never posed any problem of Ethernet communication since the reception of this AP1100-AE mount (sn: AP1100-003 acquired in 2013), both with the GTOCP3-AE and the GTOCP4.
But this problem has only occurred since the repair was returned to Astro-Physics ....
But now, not knowing the reasons why this address 169.254.1.141 is not suitable, reading nowhere in the Astro-Physics documentation any information on this subject, I would like to have all information on the type of static IP address allowing me communication via ethernet between a computer and the GTOCP4.
Should I do some engineering studies before acquiring such equipment .....?

Re: guiding calibration woes
When calibrating the guider with MaxIm, the scope doesn't move. I don't get the "L" pattern, and MaxIm says it hasn't moved, and the pixel coordinate numbers don't change.
When guiding with MaximDL you first have to establish a connection between Maxim and the mount. That is done by bringing up the Observatory Control window. Then press on Telescope "Connect". If you don't do that, the guider will not function.

I reviewed the functioning of the Superstar guider with Terry Platt of Starlight Xpress, and he's satisfied that the guider is working correctly. Pushing the N-S-E-W buttons in APCC make the Superstar's LED brighten, as it should, which (according to Terry) means the guider relays are working correctly. I swapped out the USB cable, with no effect. I know someone's going to suggest reviewing everything, reseating cables, settings in MaxIm, etc. I've done all that -- at least I think I have. Ordinary go-tos (orchestrated by CCD Commander) and plate-solves work correctly.
Is there something that I should look for in APCC or MaxIm or CP3 that might have been inadvertently changed that is causing this problem? If I need to buy a new guider, I'll do it. But I want to be sure that's the problem.
