Hi everyone:

On June 30, 1999, a group of us decided that we needed to start two group to discuss AP products, one for telescopes (ap-ug) and the other for mounts (ap-gto).  Thanks to Roland and his amazing company, the groups have grown to several thousand members apiece, with a lot of great information and photos shared between members.  Since Roland does not participate in some of the major online forums, these groups continue to be a great source of information.

Over the last few years, my job has become incredibly busy so I can no longer run the groups by myself.  We have been fortunate to have the folks at AP helping with management.  With the imminent changes to Yahoo Groups, it is time to migrate to a new platform.  From now on, AP will officially own and run its groups.  I look forward to joining the new groups and continuing to marvel at all the great products AP puts out as well as the images from the talented astrophotographers in the group.  As for myself, I am going to enjoy my AP Mak…I got on the list just after the groups started and just got this beauty in July.

I do hope to migrate into something more stable and accessible, but right now I'm up to my eyeballs in work (and that includes all of us here): refractors, more 10" Maks and the Mach1 mount which will be shown in its entirety at AIC.

What's next after Yahoo Groups??

Thank you all for the heads up. This is the first that we have heard about the imminent demise of Yahoo Groups.

I looked into groups.io a while ago and am reviewing the information. Are there other group formats that should be considered?

Yep - that was it ... I knew it had to be simple .. couldn't see the forest through the trees ... or is it the galaxy through the stars ... ?

Re: AP Park Positions and SGP

That was the issue.  I had assumed that if I set the Park/Unpark positions in APCC that those would be reflected in the APV2 ASCOM driver.  That was a bad assumption.

I went in and updated my APV2 ASCOM driver.  The Park To box was set to Current Position so I changed it to Park 5.

I powered up my mount and started SGP and ran through a number of Parks and Unparks with SGP and my updated APV2 ASCOM driver.  And, of course, works as advertised.  The mount now goes to Park 5 position every time.

Thanks for the help.

Jerry

See Park/Unpark Settings of A-P V2 ASCOM driver below. This is where to set to Park 5.

I have UNPARK set to "Last Parked", and PARK set to "Park 5" in the Park to this Position box of APCC.

Is there something else I should be setting in APCC that would result in the mount going to the Park 5 position when receiving a PARK command from SGP?

Jerry,

Check to see what you have the driver set to for parking.   SGP will send the Park command to the driver and it will tell the mount where to park, not APCC.

If your tripod has a flat surface, this is what you need. You may have to drill and tap some holes.

Hello everyone,

This is my first post here. I am on the list for the AP Mach2, and hope to enjoy this mount for many years to come, when I receive it. I have enough wasted nights fighting sub-standard mounts and am ready to take the AP leap.

I was wondering what kind of pier adapter the Mach2 will require. In case anyone out there is using a NexPier (a.k.a. NexDome pier), I would be interested to know how you mounted your Astro-Physics 400, 600, 1100, 900, or Mach1 on the NexPier. The product linked below indicates that all of these AP mounts have the same screw configuration as Mach2 (correct me if I am wrong): https://astro-physics.com/lt2apm

Also, since I am impatient... what's the status on the Mach2 orders? How far down the list are we at? :)

Thanks,
-Rathi.

Don,

Several other groups I follow have migrated to Groups I.O.  And apparently Groups I.O. provides the group owner with utilities to move all the old files and images from Yahoo Groups over to Groups I.O.  The file and photo migration process isn’t effortless, but for the most part, it works.

Limits can also be set in the ASCOM driver, and can be removed if you don't need them.

Hi Roland...
Thank you for answering my question...
I backed off the worm gear from the ring gear and the motor still will not operate...
On APCC I noticed in the error log a message that reads "RA limit - Bounce back within limits"...
But I'm not sure what to do about it?
Any help would be appreciated...
Dana Hall
If you have exceeded the limits the yellow light will come on and the motor will stop. That is an indication that you have slewed or tracked past the safety limits which you have set in APCC. You can refer to the documentation on how to set limits, but if you are not sure how to do that, then a call to our tech guys during the day can probably clear this up for you.
