I have seen that message before. I am wondering if it is related to virtual com ports. Regards Hemant

Thanks for checking. I loaded up your PHD2 log in the (free) PEMPro Log Viewer app, which parses and color codes the PHD2 logs. In between the dithers there are these odd "settling" state changes. It's not clear why they are needed or if they do anything but there have been bugs in PHD2 before so maybe this is one of them. I uploaded a screen shot to the files section which marks an example of the behavior. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ap-gto/files/TonysPHD2LogViaPEMProLogViewer.jpg So, I think Brian is probably correct that you might need to have the PHD2 guys explain the behavior in your logs. BTW, if you want to download my log viewer application, you can get it here: https://www.siriusimaging.com/downloads/PEMProLogViewerLatest.exe Best regards, -Ray Gralak Author of APCC (Astro-Physics Command Center): http://www.astro-physics.com/index.htm?products/accessories/software/apcc/apcc Author of PEMPro V3: http://www.ccdware.com Author of Astro-Physics V2 ASCOM Driver: http://www.gralak.com/apdriver Author of PulseGuide: http://www.pulseguide.com Author of Sigma: http://www.gralak.com/sigma

Benoit,
No ASCOM driver. Linux with direct serial commands.A few other questions: 1) Which version of the mount firmware were you using? 2) Was the mount left on and parked (or tracking stopped) for several days previously? 3) Was this the first slew that you had done in the session? -Ray Gralak Author of APCC (Astro-Physics Command Center): http://www.astro-physics.com/index.htm?products/accessories/software/apcc/apcc Author of PEMPro V3: http://www.ccdware.com Author of Astro-Physics V2 ASCOM Driver: http://www.gralak.com/apdriver Author of PulseGuide: http://www.pulseguide.com Author of Sigma: http://www.gralak.com/sigma -----Original Message-----

Re: infinite goto
Ray Gralak
No ASCOM driver. Linux with direct serial commands. One possibility... the mount would continue to slew if the software sent a "move" (not the same as a "slew") command but didn't send a "stop move" command. Or, the "stop move" command was malformed or got corrupted on transmission. -Ray Gralak Author of APCC (Astro-Physics Command Center): http://www.astro-physics.com/index.htm?products/accessories/software/apcc/apcc Author of PEMPro V3: http://www.ccdware.com Author of Astro-Physics V2 ASCOM Driver: http://www.gralak.com/apdriver Author of PulseGuide: http://www.pulseguide.com Author of Sigma: http://www.gralak.com/sigma -----Original Message-----

I could not find that message either, so it's not clear where it is coming from. Maybe try renaming your settings files, in case one of them is corrupted.

infinite goto
Benoit Schillings
using an ap-1600 + the sky
I did a goto and the mount went into a never ending RA move(well, I stopped it after 3 full rotations) (broke two cables) ? I checked the command log from the sky and this was a simple MS# command which never ended. Any idea ? -- benoit

My apologies. It just did it again. “Cannot set allocations” is the exact error message.

Backlash compensation in AP900 via Pempro
Geoff Smith
I have been having some guiding problems in Dec with my AP900. I used Pempo's backlash exerciser and the backlash compensation via the keypad and managed to get the Pempro graph looking good after adjusting backlash compensation to 5 (on a scale of 1 to 10). Then the clouds rolled in and I won't be able to test guiding until I go back to my permanent setup next new moon.
I'm just seeking opinions as to the merits of backlash compensation versus trying a mechanical adjustment. Geoff

Tracking too fast with GTO 1600 Mount
joepetrick9@...
All of a sudden the tracking on my GTO 1600 Mount is going too fast. It appears that the right ascension speed is too fast. I could not figure it out so I reset the keypad thinking that would help but it did not. The speed set on the keypad shows on number 8 that it is sidereal so why it would not track at the right speed I do not know. Stars will move fully across my CCD image in approximately 10 or 15 seconds. If I set the number 8 on the keypad to stop then the stars appear to move the opposite direction and off the image in 10 or 15 seconds. I cannot figure this out. Can anyone help me as to if there's another setting for the sidereal rate that I'm missing.
Thanks, Joe P

I suggest that you take this over to the PHD2 Forum at Also, if you are not using the latest development build 2.6.4dev10 (LINK), update to that. Since dev8, there is a menu option that will upload your log files to a PHD2 server. Finally, I suggest looking at the PHD2 Best Practices as a starting point, including the use of the Guiding Assistant. Attached is the PHD2 log file (https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ap-gto/files/PHD2_DebugLog_2018-04-18_183413.txt). It was mentioned to use the Dec RMS value to set the MinMo by removing the drift portion but I don't know what that means or how to do it?

Re: Error : Set Allocations Failed (APCC)

I often get the same message. It says “Failed to set allocations.” I have to reboot my laptop and start over. IThanks, I'll take a look at the driver code tonight to see if there might be anything in there that matches that phrase. It sounds like it could be a database message. Maybe try renaming the "settings.apdb" file in C:\ProgramData\Astro-Physics in case it has become corrupted. Note that if you do that you will need to reenter your driver settings. -Ray Gralak Author of APCC (Astro-Physics Command Center): http://www.astro-physics.com/index.htm?products/accessories/software/apcc/apcc Author of PEMPro V3: http://www.ccdware.com Author of Astro-Physics V2 ASCOM Driver: http://www.gralak.com/apdriver Author of PulseGuide: http://www.pulseguide.com Author of Sigma: http://www.gralak.com/sigma -----Original Message-----

I often get the same message. It says “Failed to set allocations.” I have to reboot my laptop and start over. I assumed it was a Windows problem as APCC still launches. At least for me, the driver that won’t launch after i get the message.
