Hi Ray. I'm in Canberra and have a 1600GTO also. I also use SkyX. Happy to help if needed. Private message on IceInSpace if you like, or email Daleen and ask for my private email. Logan Tudor.

Thank you John for the kind words. I really appreciated.

Of course everyone at Astro-Physics is quick to help as you all know as are many AP customers.  I was just thinking back to when I first got started with AP mounts and remembered how many images he shared with me.

Just thought it was high time to share my appreciation for all the advice, comments and friendships I've gained from this list.

I could not sign off here without acknowledging, Eric Baumgartner who invited me to his home in Mother's Day when my Mach 1 arrived with a rather unheard of DOA Keypad.  I was able to prove that it was indeed not functioning and that it wasn't any other cable or connection.  I have to also thank Marj one more time for providing an RMA that very same Mother's Day Sunday so I could cross ship my Keypad for a working unit.
Everyone thanks everyone at the time of service. This is one group that just keep on giving and giving back to their fellow Astro-Physics users.

AP does recommend them.  It was Marj who suggested I pursue ScopeGuard. If not Marj it was Roland. First choice they made in fact.

I have a ScopeGuard and love it.  They even cut the insert to my latitude at my request.  It's perfect!  In my opinion it's superior to the Pelikan cases as its a better latch set better handles, hinges and very strong but portable. It has wheels, metal corners and holds everything cut to fit including the counterweight shaft, Keypad and knobs.

They closed shop for awhile so I couldn't recommend them but they are back.  Mind you my RAPAS is in a Pelikan case so I can't say anything negative about Pelikan cases.  The ScopeGuard is just that good!

Hi,

I'm Ray Palmer from Western Australia. I recently acquired an AP1600GTO.
I'm just working through a few things before my first imaging session with
it.

I know there are three default parking positions. I prefer position 3
where my scope is looking at the South Celestial Pole. However lets say I
lost power on my last session (or the mount doesn't know where it is
looking for whichever reason). How do I tell it via the PC to resume from
Park Position 3? I'm using the SkyX with the AP window. It only seems to
give me options to slew to park positions, but not resume from park
positions. The hand controller does give me an option to resume but not
from park position 3 (because it thinks it is pointing elsewhere). How do
I force / tell the mount that it is currently looking at Park Position 3
please?

Also with the sync and recal, not sure if I am missing something. When I
point to my first star I hit sync, the mount now knows it is looking at
that star. The next star I slew to I hit the bottom right button on tghe
hand controller (RA Dec Rev), select option 9 and the controller beeps. If
I am connencted to a computer, is this updating the pointing model? Do I
keep doing this to increase the pointing model's accuracy?

Should I use the TSX's AP pluggin' s recalibrate button for the pointing
model instead? Is there a difference? Can you use the recalibrate button
all night, or is that just for one calibration? If it can be used all
night, why does it say "recalibrate&q uot; and not just 'calibrate&# 39;?
It feels like it is restarting a pointing model again everytime 're' calibrate
is pressed.

One other quick question. I am driving a C14 with a QSI683 on. In the
coming months I'll be putting a solarmax 90 on this as well, but at the
moment the mount is not carrying much at all. When I balance I can't get
the axis to free swing, I can get them loose, but not really loose enough
to enable very accurate balancing. Any pointers warmly welcome.

So far the mount feels amazing. I can't wait to wrap my head around the
software so I can start catching photons.

Any feedback greatly apprecaited.

Ray

I am sure I am not the first to ask, does either AP sell a hard case for
the
Mach-1, or if not, who makes one that would work or folks have made work?

Thanks.

There is one other remote possibility that you can check out with the camera removed. Look up the camera adapter tube past the baffle tube towards the secondary. Now place your eye at the edge of the camera adapter tube and look if you can see clear sky past the primary and secondary baffles. If you can see the sky directly past the baffles (would look like a thin crescent shape of sky), then it is possible for the light of a bright star to enter directly into the imaging train and cause an arc of light. If that's the case then you would need to make the secondary baffle somewhat larger to block this source of stray light.

This is most probably not the source of your stray light, but it would be good to check out.

If I’ve learned anything in this life it’s that I listen to 1, my wife, and 2, Roland. I took the camera off the telescope and turned on the FlatMan XL at full brightness. There appear to be some suspects but they are as far away as 7” which I find even less suspect as the arc appears to be finely focused making me think it’s very near the CCD chip itself. What few surface reflections I did see I covered with flocking paper. As the FW8 is part of the camera there is no removing the filter wheel itself, the camera came with this when new, but I could remove the filter carousel itself if needed. For now, it’s intact. I also flocked the STL camera adapter for the Pyxis which is as close as anything come to the camera/filter wheel. Of course it’s likely a few days before a clear night is expected so I’ll have to wait and see. And it will have to be tested on NGC3521 as this is the target that the past few imaging sessions have this problem. Other images taken the same night on different targets show none of this.

It's no use showing the picture of the large parts of the scope (i.e. primary mirror, etc). That's not where the reflections are coming from.
REMOVE THE CAMERA (emphasis mine), now look up the small parts that are near the camera, ALL of them, not just the focuser. Take a picture up from the tail end with the scope aimed up at the bright sky - with all of the parts in place, only the camera removed.

Re: Hard case Mach-1

Andrew Barton

I use the Pelican 1600 for my Mach1. It is not as big as the 1650 (and probably not as well protected) but I prefer the small size for driving out to remote locations.

The following thread from CloudyNights shows how the mount fits in the 1600.

HI Steve,

I'm wondering how the majority of the users feel about that.
Feel about what? That they cannot change longitude/latitude without a power cycle?

Hi Joel,

I've noticed in the 5.07.02 official release there is an option to "Send
Longitude/Latitude to Mount" that is not present in the beta. Is there a reason for
that?
Yes. Longitude/Latitude should only ever be changed at mount initialization after
being powered on. Setting Long/Lat after the mount has been initialized changes
the position to which the mount thinks it is pointing. This can be fixed by doing a
RECAL, but users usually don't think of that so the option was removed.

My opinion. ScopeGuard makes the best cases for all types of scopes and mounts. I believe AP would recommend them.

Andrew,

My used Mach1 came with the Losmandy tripod. It is reasonably portable, very stable, and easy to level. I also cover the tripod/scope with a TeleGizmos Cover since it sits in my backyard patio all of the time.
