Just another vote of confidence for a separate AP group. Derek, I'd be glad
to help you manage this list also, let's set it up on egroup ASAP.

Hi Derek,

I like the idea of a separate AP list as well. I would
like to be added to that mailing list when it comes about.

Thanks,

First, I would like to welcome all of our new
members--sorry, but I
haven't had time to send you individual e-mails.

There has been substantial interest in a general AP
e-group, analogous
to MAPUG.

As an interim solution, I think we should do the following:

Make an additional AP e-group (call it ap for now).

Invite everyone on this ap-gto list to subscribe--this
would be easy.
You do NOT need to accept the invitation.

We can then see if it is worth it to continue two groups
or merge them.

For now, I see a need for two groups:

Someone with a Meade SCT on a 900 GTO does not need to
hear about other
AP products. Conversely, someone with an AP 130 EDF on a
G-11 mount may
not need to hear the latest about DigitalSkyVoice. Of
course, many will
want to join both lists. Then we can see how things go...

Thanks for listening to my blatherings, and comments are welcome.

to work just great. I am waiting on a responce from a user who is using or

RS232 cable & Microphones

Tim Khan

Hi Everyone, this is my first post, gald to see a users group online.

Just recently made a long cable (25') for connecting the laptop
computer to the my 1200 mount (because the computer stores in Miami
dont sell anything longer than 10 feet). I tested the cable by using a
ohm meter, all the pins (4 only) have no resistance what so ever. I
wont get to test it on the mount until it clears, September perhaps.

Has anyone found a good wireless mic thats battery powered, including
the base unit? Or, should I make a mic chord extension?

Extra note, A/P and myself are building a substantial list of A/P mount

an asset here.

Derek,

I support the idea of two groups. The current GTO group can stay fairly
small and specialized, while the general AP group can cover a wide range
of
AP-related topics. I would hate to see the GTO group become a MAPUG and
lose
its focus.

Hi Derek;
I too have noted that some in the group have other than AP scopes and some
have both refractors and SCT's. However, the AP GTO systems are evolving all
the time. We still have to see what the new program for the keypad will
bring and the chip for the computer so that we can download from the AP web
site.
I think there is enough to talk about just with the AP mounts, however, it
would be of interest to see how the mount is employed when using different
scopes and what mountings are required, what alignment problems may occur,is
tracking effected depending on the scope used etc.
In other words...in short...expand if you wish...it could be fun.

Hi Bob;
Many thanks for the reply. The Meade being lighter than the C 11 I am hoping that I can get away without using the additional weight. It seems you are stating that there is little of no difference in the Polar Aignment process and that the mount with the C11 on will continue to center its tarket objectsd fairly well.
I too will have the Dovelm and the DC 10 from Losmandy as per AP instructions to me. They felt that additional weights would npt be required...hope they are right.
Once again, thanks for your imput
