Re: Settings for APCC

Steve,

I just grab a corner and  “shrink” the “Emergency Window”  to a suitable postage stamp size, and stuff it in a handy corner of the screen. You can have it always “on-top” of other windows, with no loss of time in getting to it ...  in a panic.

Settings for APCC

Steve Reilly

As I work with APCC more I found that one of the little things that takes monitor real estate is the welcomed Emergency Stop window that opens when the mount is slewed but I looked and can’t find a way for it to automatically close after the slew completes. Is this possible? I’m still getting used to having to make sure I open and start APCC before ACP and Scheduler start or I get a Telescope Failed to Connect message as I’m still running the demo on my home system.  Appreciate any thoughts.

Steve

Good advice.  I think that would do it.  I'll have some time this evening to test it out before committing to a night of imaging.

I think you can set a meridian delay in apcc, image on the correct side, have your script stop imaging, issue a goto 1 min after the object crosses your meridian delay time, then start imaging again when the object passes your obstruction.

I use apcc and the meridian delay feature a lot.. don’t use sgp though.

Hi Ben,

I am not sure if there is a standard ASCOM mount command for setting Meridian Delay and SGP does not know anything about A-P mount's Meridian Delay feature. What you are asking sounds unusual and I am not sure if it can be done automatically and unsupervised.

You may be able to set up SGP sequence so when the mount reaches 30 minutes before Meridian and automatically pause SGP sequence, then you will have to manually set Meridian Delay, flip the mount by sending GoTo command of same target object, plate solve and auto center and finally resume SGP sequence.

I suggest you to post at SGP forum. I use SGP all the time and works great so I am familiar with it but I am not sure how to do what you are asking. I understand exactly what you are asking.

I would start imaging when the object is a couple of hours before the meridian, so the scope would start out on the west side with counterweights down in the usual configuration.  What I want to have happen is a meridian flip that occurs, say, 30 minutes before the object crosses the meridian, so the scope would flip to the east side with counterweights now slightly up, I would image a little bit longer, and then I would plan to move onto the next object.  I am blocked to the west but want to eek out as much imaging time as possible.  I can get a little more imaging time if I do this flip early.

So, should I set the meridian delay to 30 minutes, or is this plan all taken care of through SGP?

Thanks for the help.

Do you mean start imaging at the East with the scope under the mount? If so, use A-P Meridian delay via A-P V2 ASCOM mount driver.

Greetings!

I set up my Mach1GTO for imaging over the next several nights, but I have an obstruction directly overhead from an insanely huge laurel hedge.  I use SGP for taking the images.  What is the best way to set my meridian flips to occur a little early so that I can (1) avoid imaging the leaves of the hedge and (2) getting a little more time to image my objects from the east side of the tripod before the object finally passes out of my view?  I'm a little confused if I (1) just make the settings in SGP, (2) use the meridian delay feature or (3) a combination of both.

Follow up question: what are the ethics of poisoning a neighbors hedge that keeps growing up and over the fence?

Thanks for your help!

Best Regards,
Ben

Last night I parked my Mach One in position 4. Tonight I opened ECU, my planetarium program, and when the startup messages were dismissed, the scope unparked itself and began tracking.  The "track on unpark" box is checked but I didn't unpark.
What's up with that?

Thanks Marj,

I called this morning and Christine sent me the pdf. One wire, just one not in the right place will make a world of difference. I had the computer connected to the GTO box and not the ELS. Go figure, good to have the docs now

and thanks for the assist.
