Re: apcc and refraction

Ray Gralak

Refraction is always included in the calculations and there is no way to turn it off. Thanks for reminding about the second checkbox. That was for debugging refraction calculations a couple years back and I made the mistake of leaving it visible by mistake.

So are you saying it is a selection not intended for the end user? Like the "fit data" button next to "correct for
refraction" button under pointing model\model button?

The correct for refraction check box is in 2 locations.

Just to be clear, refraction is included in APCC when the checkbox is off. Looking at the code I see that my
intention of that checkbox was to include refraction when there is NO model so with the refraction checkbox
enabled it is being added a second time. I'll fix this in the upcoming build (I'm still working on some of the issues
reported).

Hi John and Ray.

I did some testing last night and am experiencing the same issue.   Correct for Refraction on results in star trails. The plot map shoots all the plots to the left bottom corner. The trails appear to be opposite the plot map and the stars trail to o top right.

I will open a ticket. Ray, i have new pictures from last night.

The encoders do not interfere when building a pointing model. On or off has no effect either way.

The support ticket system has a community area for sharing issues. We want to move all support issues into the community or directly into a personal ticket.

We will push the move to the community part of the support system after NEAF/NEAIC.

Ray,

You were right – (as always) – JING is great. Used it to capture a 5 minute (10 MB) demo of that 3D-VIEW
problem, and posted a link in the Support Ticket to their site. Took a few “Re-Takes” as they say in the BIZ, to get
things right, mainly due to “this operator” forgetting to set things in proper view on APCC panel, to relate clock time
in movie to the LOG file time, for you.
Using JING was easy ! – Two things to learn at one time – Jing capture and the new AP Ticket Support System.
Both painless.

While getting familiar with this whole process, I initially saved the movie clip to my local drive, expecting I could
convert the SWF to MP4 format for email attachment. but none of my apps were very successful. As it turned out,
IE-11 with “Adobe Flash Player” linked in, plays the SWF format directly, without problems – a no brainer. Also, as
you stated, no storage is involved on anybody’s PC, just on TECHSMITH’s CLOUD at ScreenCast site.

Thanks for introducing me to this free utility and service - 2 GB of movie clip storage – plenty of room for more
(hopefully ... not too many) 5-minute bug demo clips.

Hi Dave,

This sounds like one of the cases of double application of the refraction calculation. Did you create a trouble ticket?
The links in your post don't seem to work.

Hey Ray.

Not sure if you want this in the new support system. If so, let me know and
I will port it over.

My pointing model is 260 points (about 15 bad points) with a horizon limit
of 25degrees. I am using a THUM sensor.

Here are two test exposures of M5. Each 20min.

This first exposure is with pointing correction and tracking correction
enabled. Correct for refraction is OFF. Not bad, a few pixel trailing.
Refraction?

http://ns1.kb2networks.com/test1m5.jpg

This second exposure is the same but with correct for refraction ON. As you
can see there is significant trailing.

Mark,

It looks like this one might take a bit of time. It looks like a third party tool I'm using is causing the problem as that function exists and I've verified it in the debugger. I'll have to submit a bug report and wait for an answer and hopefully a solution.

apcc and refraction

Dave Goodyear <dave@...>

Refraction?

This second exposure is the same but with correct for refraction ON. As you
can see there is significant trailing.

Thoughts?

Re: APCC 4K screen scaling issues

Tom Ellis

Ray you are absolutely correct!!!

I shot myself in the foot on the app shortcut screen properties where I inadvertently told it to ignore higher res screens for scaling.  Mea Culpa, I will in the future try not to be a PIA.

I am now working on the "run as administrator BS"  that is screwing up the VP connectivity.  I found last evening, now that I have re-installed  APCC and V2,  the program execution is back correctly but when I would bring up SkyX and other apps and punch connect it would say "driver not found"  I had to go into the win8 regular program start screen and tell each app to "run as administrator".  Only then would clicking the "check port" return a positive connection.  Running the program shortcut from the desktop taskbar DOES NOT RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR! even if set the shortcut to do it automatically.  Talk about convoluted,

Well at least now I now how to get everything to plug and play (or at least I think so).  I have made enough mistakes setting this up I am becoming a minor expert.  Now to grovel with Howard at AP

Thanks for having the patience of Job

I tried Maxim 6.08 and the driver works correctly. I don't see a 6.09 version available via doing a check for updates?

Subject: [ap-gto] AP ASCOM driver v2 and MaxIm 6

Does anyone have MaxIm 6.09 working with the AP V2 ASCOM driver? When I start up a session and connect to
the driver, I always get one of these errors in the "Telescope" tab:

Error: Could not find property 'RightAscension' Reason: The RPC server is unavailable.
Error: Could not find property 'Slewing' Reason: The RPC server is unavailable

Slewing using MaxIm doesn't work properly, I assume because of these errors. The telescope moves but MaxIm
continues to say "Slewing - Moving Scope" in the Telescope tab forever (until I disconnect the mount), and the
N/S/E/W controls remain greyed out. I can turn tracking on and off so it appears MaxIm is talking to the mount.
Clicking the "Abort" button causes the message to change to "Slewing" but the buttons are still greyed out.

I have also gotten this error at other times when pushing the "nudge" button:

MaxIm DL failed to start the slew:
'SlewtoCoordinatesAsync' exceeded timeout of 5000 ms by 3 ms.

Using the controls in the AP ASCOM driver window work properly, so my guess is the issue is in the
communication between the driver and MaxIm.

New Astro-Physics support ticket system

To all,

We are very excited to launch our new support ticket system that will offer these benefits for you:
** Direct access to our support team

** Quicker response time and problem resolution
** Support tickets that will keep a running log of the conversation regarding your issue or questions. You can even attach screen recordings, images, charts or whatever helps you to communicate. We can too!

** All members of the support team will have access to the entire history of the ticket

** You can gain easy access to your previous tickets through the portal.

Over time, we will build a knowledge base of answers to common (and uncommon questions) and a wiki resource. As you enter your ticket, our knowledge base and wiki will be searched automatically and possible answers to your questions will be available to you immediately.

We realize that sometimes you have questions in the middle of the night or you live on the opposite of the earth and you want answers quickly. We hope that this resource can help to get information to you more quickly.

I will post a second email with information on how to access the portal.

Clear Skies,
