Re: How to clear out a previous APCC install (registry) because you really screwed up :(

Hi Tom,

Before you go down that rabbit hole of trying to "fix" a problem in your registry I think you should ensure that all your ASCOM client applications and APCC are consistently set to run "as administrator", or better, set to NOT run as administrator. If you need help doing this let me know by posting back here or give Howard a call at AP.

OK then, I know something is corrupted. I will do some sleuthing and get back to you. First thing I am going to do
is clean out the registry and reinstall after I uninstall. I have been here too many times before and some value got
inadvertently stuck in the registry.

I love a good challenge but this is really getting old. Aloha Tom

AP900GTO not tracking in sideral

avastro@...

Hello I need some help.

I'm the happy owner of an AP900GTO GPOCP3 upgraded Chip version V, installed in my observatory.

Everything was working flawlessly, when the sideral tracking stopped working. I followed the troubleshotting manual recommendations, checked the clutches, then open the motors cover plate.

The DEC motor shaft is turning in all the selected rates, but the RA motor shaft is not turning in sideral nor in solar, but it's turning in Lunar and in Stop. High slew rate work fine.

I'm a bit lost and have no idea where to look.

Any help will be appreciate.

Odd APCC 3D Virtual View Problem

Joe Zeglinski

Hi,

Just found this bug, while practicing on a recent APCC-Pro install: (ver. 1.02) using  ASCOM-V2 driver ( 5.06.04), on my AP-900 CP3 (V-Beta chip - May 16, 2014) –  I fortunately have it indoors for testing right now. I wanted to get some practice on using the APCC, as well as to find any operational inconsistencies. My CP3  Beta V-chip firmware was next to being the  final version, so maybe it explains the following situation.

-------
After running tests for most of the day, I discovered that if you issue any standard Park command (e.g. Park-2), the AZ and ALT were each  just one arc-second short of being correct. For example, the CP3 reports (AZ = 89:59:59 and ALT = -00:00:01) . I didn’t think that it mattered, since it didn’t,  back when I was running just using the ASCOM driver.

However, if you shutdown the  APCC session, and reply with OK, just when the CP3 is  at these coordinates – only  one arc-second shy of being “precisely orthogonal” - the Virtual Display saves the OTA position in Park-2 as being UNDER the mount,  at the north side. I read that the APCC would not allow going to a negative ALT angle, but it does, when the CP3’s low angular precision,  reports it that way. Doesn’t take much drift in the encoders to get into this situation. Perhaps the Park angles need to be rounded up to zero and  90 degree multiples.

Then later - when you restart APCC, the OTA is shown starting from UNDER the mount,  and stays there even as sidereal tracking has moved the scope into positive angles,  away from Park-2. The 3D View doesn’t correct itself, since you started from an odd position, and it could be a valid orientation, if the scope fits.  The display just continues tracking from there.

Likewise, in this situation, issuing a Park-3, the OTA goes North, but reverses the OTA,  pointing down at the ground and cutting right through the pier ! It is very difficult to correct this anomaly. However, all the coordinate displays in all boxes of APCC, and those in ASCOM panel agree and are correct. The mount slews  parks normally – it’s just that you can’t believe the 3D display with that kind of startup condition.

Perhaps the standard Park Positions should be rounded to positive angles after a park, so the 3D display would save the “intended” correct scope position. Luckily, while the 3D View  shows a collision, the actual mount & scope is not really crashing – but it is a false indication for a remotely operated telescope.  It is just a result of a  “program shutdown” conditional anomaly.

I found a work-around for this problem. After issuing a Park-2, I immediately unparked the mount again, and let the mount “drift” for a few minutes, into a slightly positive ALT-AZ angles, before shutting down the APCC app itself – with the mount still tracking. This then at least saved the “coordinates” with the scope at approximately the correct Park-2 position, and resumes from it,  at the next APCC launch. Of course, the mount is not really parked at Park-2 (or any of the other three orthogonal Alt-Az coordinates), but close enough. So, when you resume the next APCC session, “from Last Parked position”, the 3D View startup now looks correct.

Otherwise, using APCC is a pure joy to use, even though the 3D display is a bit scary right now, requiring an awkward shutdown procedure – if you use the standard Park positions.

Joe Z.

Hi Tom,

Honestly I don’t see how anything in the registry would be at fault. Both the driver and apcc use settings files and not the registry. To me this sounds like you have a mixture of apps running as administrator and some not. Running the installers as administrator does not matter nor hurt anything.

Well, Howard AP assisted me in figuring out that the VP was a hub and not an individual port for software package
connect. (had to use taskmaster to get the apps to quit and probably cause the corruption there). Even though I can
see the USB/RS232 port on COM1 ping/ponging information an app connection FM4, SkyX, MaxDL6, PinPoint,
PemPro2, AP 1200. if they do connect will not exchange info as required. However if I make SkyX use the Bisque
driver works fine on a separate VP. I have installed and reinstalled the V2 latest and older driver but to no avail. FM4
will absolutely hang and not shut down because it want the driver to complete the app shutdown.

Equipment, Dell XPS15 9530 core I 7, 512GB SSD, 3200x1800 Nvidia video, ANKER USB 3.0 7 PORT HUB
(USB2 HUB WOULD NOT HANDLE THE LOAD). Win8.1 (latest updates).

Most apps were installed with “run as administrator” (didn’t read your “readme” close enough and now I cannot
reinstall without it) .

The hole is deep and there is about 128g of software and 128g of files on the SSD. I have a good idea of how to
clear the registry, (had issues with other programs that have VP, Flex 5000K, VSPE, DDutil, Comcat,
HamRadioDelux just to mention a few of the amateur radio apps that make VP. I just wanted to see if you had any
hidden hooks in the registry. When VSPE goes crook it really goes crook.

Ok, but that's not much to go on. Are you seeing an error message? If so, what does it say?

Also, do you have the full version of PinPoint installed?

Tom,

I don't have a list of all the registry items. Most of them are Microsoft/installer-related, so I'm not sure I could easily find the entire list for you.

Hi Ray, Being an old MicroSoft guy I sometimes get cocky. I have manged to corrupt quite a few files that presently
relegate APCC useless. (installed, reinstalled, uninstalled) and based on the old "microsoft guy issue" pretty much
take the blame for being a "know it all" and screwing the pooch.

Would you please be kind enough to send me the entries the I must clear in the registry to get the machine back to
virgin. If you would rather do this off line it is tom@k4xv.org

Bowing deeply to acknowledge my transgression.

I really want to get this fantastic piece of software humming.

Hi Bill,

First, the "Pro" and "Standard" versions have different installers. Have you downloaded the "Pro" version from the website? If so you need to install and run the Pro version.

Second, the upgrade from Standard to Pro requires a manually created key to the "Pro" version at this time. You should get one shortly at the email address you used.

APCC | VIRTUAL V2 ASCOM HUB PORTS | VIRTUAL ASCOM PORTS

Tom Ellis

APCC and VIRTUAL PORT CONNECTION CLARIFICATION (I hope):  I like to think I understand a lot more confuser stuff than the average bear, right boo-boo.  WRONG!  I have recently created an unnecessary brouhaha because of both complacency and failure to appreciate an application that is head and shoulders above what I have be accustomed to over the years.  APCC is ROCKET SCIENCE!  I say this because the concept of both a hub and access point to me is so foreign that I didn't even consider it.  I wont go into computer background let's say it spans over 54 years.  In my opinion APCC is a game changer that other virtual port programs will eventually embrace.

Now that I have groveled let me see if I can present straight forward what I did not grasp on the first pass.  The ASCOM V2 DRIVER IS DIFFERENT!!!

It is both a V2 ASCOM SINGLE PORT MULTI-APP CONNECTION HUB and a SINGLE APP PORT using ASCOM (non AP V2) CONNECTION DEVICE.

That means if you are connecting using the ASCOM V2 driver you come in on ONE APCC VIRTUAL PORT for as many programs that are configured identically.  Each and every time you select ASCOM V2 DRIVER in each of the apps (SkyX, FocusMax4, MaxDL, SkyTools3 etc.) your CHOSE PROPERTY is going to be the same APCC virtual port which will be brought up.

Now, the difference comes in what you if you do not use the AP V2 Driver but someone else's ASCOM driver you must designate a different VP and this app will be the only thing on that port. NOTE: IF THE APCC PORT SCREEN COMES UP YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG! First create different virtual port (there are a possibility of three V2 will occupy the fourth) in APCC When your other than V2 driver is selected and you bring up the properties and select the virtual port that you have separately created in APCC.

This subtlety passed my by and I owe extreme thanks to Howard as AP for taking the time to unscrew my false logic and get me going.

I hope this firmly grounds some old timer who has suffered through everything since DOS2 and missed the plane change in LAX.

Aloha and clear skies
