There is a LOT of hidden data in that image. I opened the comet-tiny.jpg image in Photoshop and made a large Curves adjustment followed by raising the black point a bit in Levels, just to show the long (ion?) tail stretching from the comet.
To be sure, it blows out the coma, but with careful processing (vs. my 2-minute tweaks) you ought to be able to show the tails _and_ the coma together.
