I wonder how pinpoint does this.

Since this distortion is scope specific does it have a scope model database of some sort? And then the user has to specify which one he is using?

Or is the distortion automatically inferred from the photo (eg by comparing with the solved plate) and then accounting for it in the returned coordinates by assuming the on-axis region star positions are not distorted or something similar?

Which plate solvers that work with APPM do account for image distortion?
I know PinPoint does, and I believe SkyX's Image link does.
