Another display tech to consider is eink.
Not sure about it’s extreme weather performance.

Thanks Chris,
Definitely will give that a try. I
considered devising something like a “periscope or oscilloscope viewing
eye shield”, to peer right at the display. A cloth hood over my head, like a
box-camera photographer of the 1900’s, doesn’t work well, still
unreadable.
Do I recall correctly that some years ago,
you mentioned an easy replacement of the display module with a “plug compatible”
OLED module?
If so, did the change work out better, in daylight than the
existing display, and are there any further details?
Very much appreciated.

The red lens can be removed from the hand controller, which makes the
display readable in daylight. It can then be placed over the display, under the
rubber protective boot.

Mike,
I would add ... besides software,
will there be a Kit, or at least instructions, to Upgrade (or
retro-fit) that terribly dim Keypad display module with a more
readable OLED one, so we can actually see more than just a blank screen,
even on a cloudy day?
AP may not have considered some people
doing solar observations, and a need to control the mount by hand, but I
find it easier to check out or service my AP mounts, using that rugged
AP Keypad.
Also hope some future new Keypad has an
“innovative” external, slide-in battery access coin-slot rather
than dismantling the delicate Keypad fibre optic internals
etc.
But, I am certainly looking forward to
the expected software features.

Is
there any estimate on when the new V5.XXX keypad software and membranes will
be available to the other mounts that use the GTOCP4 or GTOCP5 ?
