Hi Dale,
preferences. Your software has bugs, too. I hit one myself. I reported it, you fixed it, and life went on. If anyone
subsequently brings up an issue with the driver, I don't frantically remind them that there were once bugs(!) and
things are not to be trusted.
You're pretty much repeating what I have said already. Here's what I wrote:
I'm pretty sure there are bugs in both MaximDL and PHD2. Almost every non-trivial program has bugs.
But that doesn't make it any less true that PHD2's calibration routine is known to have some issues *despite* being open source and
having many eyes look at it. I have personally seen the issue and there have been cases reported where wild oscillations have
occurred with various mounts.
There is no objectivity in that.
I've used MaximDL since around 1999, and also used PHD2 for about a year. I've looked at the source code to PHD2. I've contributed
changes to PHD2. Previously I made an independent conclusion that was about the same as Roland's.
Dale, if you have any experience comparing the two please post it. Otherwise I suggest I am not the one lacking objectivity!

Hi Dale,
I get the sense you have an axe to grind.
Yes, I sort of do. Roland did some careful tests and people seem to be blaming the results on the mount instead
of the much more likely culprit. I looked at the source code of PHD2 a while back, and within 30 minutes I found two
blaring bugs. I was not impressed.
Sitting here and breathlessly trying to point to a bug that may not even exist because you once saw some other
problem in PHD2 isn't going to move the conversation forward. To boot, no one has ruled out it being a mere
configuration issue, and Roland is waiting for clear weather to try that theory.
But your tilting at windmills when it comes to PHD2 (seemingly throwing shade because because it's open source)
is a bit anachronistic, and telling. We get it. You're the Henry Ford of astrophotography; where one can use any
platform they want, so long as it's Windows and MaximDL. But you don't need to wear that on your sleeve, and you
can at least extend a degree of professional understanding and insight to things that are not in line with your own
preferences. Your software has bugs, too. I hit one myself. I reported it, you fixed it, and life went on. If anyone
